Welcome to the August edition of Perspectives. I hope everyone has an opportunity to soak up the last bit of summer.
Earlier this week, we opened registration for the Ontario Clinical Exam (OCE), which will stay open until at least August 29. To date we have received 272 applications with more coming in every day. Candidates will be advised of their exam date as soon as possible.
I would like to thank everyone for your patience as we continue to navigate some significant changes at the College with the passing of our Registrar, Rod Hamilton. We appreciate everyone who took time to reach out during this difficult time.
Sincerely,

Ontario Clinical Exam - Registration Now Open
|
|
We have launched a new Ontario Clinical Exam section of the College website, and registration for the exam officially opened on August 22. The registration form will stay open until at least August 29.
Registration is currently open for the first seven administrations of the Ontario Clinical Exam (OCE). These administrations are hybrid exams that will be held in Toronto. We will move to a virtual exam in 2023, and a second round of registration will open in the fall of 2022.
All Provisional Practice Certificates have been extended until February 14, 2023 to allow Residents to register through the exemption policy or to attempt the Ontario Clinical Exam.
Candidates in Provisional Practice who are not pursuing the Exam Exemption Policy must be registered for the OCE.
After February 14, we will only extend Provisional Practice Certificates if candidates need time to complete the Ontario Clinical Exam, receive their results or register for an Independent Practice Certificate.
If you are interested in learning more about the OCE, please check out the exam section of the website. We will continue to add new information as it becomes available, including sample questions in the near future.

The College continues to recruit examiners to support the administrations of the Ontario Clinical Exam.
Examiners are paid a competitive hourly rate and are also provided with comprehensive paid training before starting the role.
This is an excellent opportunity to get more involved with the College on a casual basis, while helping aspiring physiotherapists to become fully registered.
Submit your application at any time on the College website.

Case of the Month: Break My Fall
|
|
Patient safety should always be a top priority for physiotherapists. PTs should take steps to mitigate any potential risks during treatment - for example providing aids to avoid a fall. Physiotherapists should also have a written plan for managing any adverse outcomes.
In a new Case of the Month we take a closer look at what happens when a PT doesn't take the necessary steps to ensure patient safety, resulting in further injury to the patient.

Practice Advice Question
What precautions should be taken when a physiotherapist is exposed to patients who may be infected with the Monkeypox virus?
|
|
|
|
Physiotherapists need to retain the patient’s financial records.
Is this a myth or a fact?

Liability Insurance Reminder
Liability insurance is a mandatory requirement for all PTs.
Is your policy up to date?
|
|
|
To register with the College, you need liability insurance that meets these requirements:
- A minimum coverage of $5 million dollars for the annual policy period
- A liability limit of at least $5 million dollars per incident
- No additional terms, conditions, or exclusions, other than standard
- No deductible
- Tail insurance for a minimum of 10 years
Some PTs may choose to add additional insurance that is not included in their policy such as cyber insurance to cover computers, internet, information technology and virtual practice tools, but this is not required.
Check with your employer to see if their clinic or hospital has insurance coverage, and whether that coverage protects you. If not, it’s your responsibility to arrange your own.
If you work in multiple practice environments (at many clinics and/or hospitals), do not assume your insurance at one location covers you for the others. You may have to arrange coverage for other locations, either jointly or separately.

CAPR: Evaluation Services Survey
|
|
The Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (CAPR) has initiated a project to re-envision its evaluation services, which includes a high-stakes competency exam and credentialling program. Stemming from this initiative is CAPR's Evaluation Services Re-envisioned (ESR) project which begins with gathering data through exploratory research, interviews, focus groups, a survey and a literature review.
To ensure data is gathered from all stakeholders, please consider filling out the survey at the link below. The survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete and will close on September 18.
Your survey responses will remain anonymous, and the data used to make recommendations on CAPR Evaluation Services.

Rowan’s Law: Concussion Safety
|
|
To support the implementation of the removal-from-sport and return-to-sport protocols, the Ministry of Health has developed a resource on Rowan’s Law: Information for Health Care Providers, which is available on the Government of Ontario’ s concussions webpage.
The government’s fact sheet - available in English and French - will help increase awareness among health care providers regarding Rowan’s Law, what the requirements are, and also provide resources to support their work.
Be sure to check out the website more information.

The College would like to welcome our newly registered physiotherapists.
