Great Read of the Week
When You Trap a Tiger
by Tae Keller
This novel is an intoxicating mix of folktale, fantasy, friendship and love (and tigers!). Through a series of challenges - and lots of laughter - Lily, the main character, finds out what she is made of. She is a character who will stay with me for a long time and whom I began to miss the moment I finished reading the last page of this beautiful book. It reminds all who read it that, even in a world filled with stolen stars, crafty tigers, and family secrets that spring from folklore, the most powerful magic of storytelling is the story we decide to tell about ourselves. This is a winning story filled with heart and action. Enjoy!
Inquiry Quest
What in the world is an atmospheric river?

That was an amazing storm we all experienced last weekend. I'm still cleaning my yard and drying out my flooded garage. It seems like atmospheric rivers are becoming an annual winter phenomenon. What are they and how do they occur? Is it really a river in the sky? Why are they so common now and causing so much damage?

I've listed two really informative websites below with information about atmospheric rivers. Check them out and see what you can learn about this interesting topic.

What other information can you find about atmospheric rivers? Look for an informative video and a helpful graphic. When you are finished gathering your information, create an educational poster that teaches about the topic.

If you feel your child might benefit from a group or individual tutoring program to close the gap created during summer vacation and to prepare them for the next phase of their education, please contact McManus Tutoring.

Programs are structured so that students learn independence, accountability, and self-possession and they develop a repeatable structure that can be used to build success in the future.

McManus Tutoring has all Summer 2021 issues of The McManus Files posted in the library.
