Greetings!

Crafting and adopting the city’s budget is generally considered the most important functions of a City Council. In Glendale we approve an annual Operating Budget, together with a ten-year Capital Improvement Plan. The CIP serves as a roadmap for constructing, repairing, maintaining and paying for Glendale’s present and future infrastructure needs. Capital projects are those which exceed $50,000 in cost and are expected to last five years or longer. These expenses range from computer systems, to vehicles of all kinds, park improvements, road work, water and wastewater projects, and building construction and repair. The total annual budget — operating budget, together with the CIP — determines the total amount of revenue the City will need in any given year, and thus serves as the basis for local property and sales tax rates.

On Tuesday, the Council held the first of five dedicated budget workshops, with the Council agreeing to craft a budget which would not require any tax increase. These budget workshops will continue until final adoption of the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 budget in June.

How can we improve our community in ways that would make being a Glendale resident even more rewarding? Have programs been cut or delayed in the past that you would like to see restored? GLENDALE UNIVERSITY

ONLY A FEW SPOTS LEFT!

Glendale University 101 (GU101) is a ten-week program sponsored by Arizona State University that is open to everyone who resides or owns a business in Glendale. During the 10-week program, participants learn more about the city’s inner workings and get an inside look at each department’s operations, as well as meet the staff who make it all happen. Each week’s class will be held in a different facility in the city and will include a tour of that facility.

The Spring 2022 GU101 classes will be held from 6:00-9:00 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning March 2, through May 4, 2022. The program is free and limited in size to encourage interaction among participants and the city staff who teach each unit. To participate in GU101, you must be a Glendale resident age 18 or older or own a business in Glendale. Attendees who complete eight of the ten GU101 classes will be honored during a GU101 graduation ceremony held on the final night of class.

32nd Annual Antique Engine & Tractor Show

The Arizona Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association is pleased to announce the return of our 32nd annual Antique Engine & Tractor Show at the Historic Sahuaro Ranch Park in Glendale, Arizona. This year’s show is set for Saturday, February 12. The show will be a one-day traditional show format on Saturday open for all to come and enjoy! We will be charging a $5 admission on Saturday to help pay for the costs to put on the show (children under 12 are free).

Free Feral Cat Resources for Glendale Residents

Outdoor cats include community cats (stray lost and abandoned pet cats and unsocialized feral cats) as well as owned cats that are allowed to roam. Reducing the number of community cats and managing their care is the goal of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs. The goal of the TNR programs is to get as many of these outdoor cats, spayed and neutered as possible to control breeding.
