A Message from Mayor Susan Shin Angulo
Dear Neighbor:

Congratulations and good luck to the teams competing this weekend at the 2021 Joe Graziano Little League NJ State Tournament, which is being proudly hosted by Cherry Hill American Little League!

The tournament brings together the four best Little League teams in the state to compete for a chance to advance to the Little League World Series, and gives us a chance to showcase the very best of Cherry Hill for the visiting teams, families, coaches and volunteers. I was thrilled to have the chance to help kick off the tournament festivities this week. Thank you so much to Cherry Hill American Little League for all of the hard work it took to bring this prestigious tournament to our town.

As gatherings and events continue to bring us together this summer, I also want to encourage anyone who is unvaccinated to make a plan today to get their shot. As we see cases rise in the state, we must do everything we can to prevent losing any more lives to this deadly virus. Please, visit the state's Covid-19 vaccine information hub for more information about the vaccines that are available and how you can schedule your vaccine appointment today.

I want to also give you a quick update on tax bills for the third and fourth quarters. Tax bills for the second half of 2021 are now available to view and pay online, and physical copies of the bills will be mailed out by the end of next week. The grace period to pay the tax bill due Aug. 1 has been extended to Aug. 30th. Payments received in the tax office after that date will be subject to interest from Aug. 1.

To view or pay your bill online, please click here or click on the link that says "Pay Tax/Sewer Bills" on the Township's homepage, CHNJ.gov. Bills were delayed as the Township had to wait for the County to send the official tax rate, and additionally delayed by a technical issue.

If you have any questions, please contact the Tax Office at 856-488-7880.

Please continue to stay safe.
Sincerely,

Susan Shin Angulo

Township News & Events
Mayor, Council honor Cherry Hill firefighters, resident's heroic actions
At the Township Council meeting on Monday night, Mayor Angulo and Township Council honored three members of the Cherry Hill Fire Department for their work responding to the Champlain Towers collapse in Surfside, Florida, as well as a resident who heroically saved his neighbor from a house fire in May.

Following the devastating Champlain Tower Collapse in Surfside, Florida three members of the Cherry Hill Fire Department, Captain Bob MacDermott, Captain Dan DiRenzo and Firefighter Jake Speas, deployed with New Jersey Task Force 1, one of 28 teams of the National Urban Search and Rescue Response System. They deployed July 1 and spent two weeks helping with the search and recovery efforts. The Cherry Hill community is deeply grateful for their hard work, dedication and compassion, both during their daily service and the Surfside search and rescue deployment.

Cherry Hill resident Nick Procopio was also honored at Monday night's meeting. In the early morning hours on May 29, Nick heard smoke alarms coming from his neighbors home and directed his family to call emergency services before running toward the flames and rescuing his 90-year old neighbor from the fire. The Cherry Hill Fire Department quickly arrived to the scene and were able to extricate the woman’s 63-year-old daughter from the house, before getting the large body of fire under control. Tragically, the daughter later succumbed to her injuries from the fire, a loss that is mourned deeply by her loved ones and is felt throughout the community. Thank you Nick, for your bravery, compassion, and kindness toward your neighbors.

Cherry Hill Environmental Board
Local school making a difference to protect wildlife!
The Cherry Hill Environmental Board is pleased to recognize the Primrose School as our first National Wildlife Federation Certified Schoolyard Habitat. The Primrose School has joined with over 220 other Cherry Hill businesses, places of worship, and individual residences that are participating in our NWF Habitat Community initiative.

The effort involves intentional restoration of wildlife habitat in our community by providing essential elements needed by our valuable pollinator and bird species. These elements include natural food sources, clean water, cover and places to raise young.

We are excited to welcome our first NWF Schoolyard Habitat among our growing list of participants throughout the township. The native plants on the grounds of Primrose School, such as pollinator-friendly black eyed Susans, sunflowers, and drought-resistant salvias and sedges allow students to personally experience nature through hands-on learning in an outdoor environment.

School certifications are FREE, and garner "bonus points" in our effort to become one of only 135 towns in the country to hold the distinction of being recognized by the NWF as a Certified Habitat Community, serving as a leader in suburban habitat restoration. You can help by certifying your eligible schoolyard, business, place of worship, or residential habitat today at by clicking here.

Senior Living
County program offers seniors free legal help for estate planning
The Camden County Commissioners run a free program for Senior Citizens in the county to help them prepare their Last Will & Testament, Power of Attorney and Living Will.

Seniors who are interested in the program will need to fill out paperwork and send it in prior to the workshop. During the appointment, an attorney will sit with seniors individually, go over their wishes and answer any questions they may have. Seniors will then return in two weeks to execute their documents.

Appointments are now being scheduled for October. To schedule an appointment, call Arneal Taylor at 856-225-5543.

For any questions on this, or any Cherry Hill Senior Citizens issue, please contact Gaye Pino at gpino@chnj.gov or 856-671-4800.
Cherry Hill Senior Bus is back in service
The Cherry Hill Senior Bus has returned for service. All riders must wear a mask while on the bus, in accordance with the state’s current mask requirements for public transit. Bus service is offered for free to residents age 62 and up, and runs Monday through Friday. The Senior Bus service was initially put on pause during the pandemic, and a return to service in the spring was delayed after the bus was among the 10 municipal vehicles impacted by a theft of catalytic converters. Repairs to the bus were recently completed.

For more information about the Senior Bus service, please call 856-661-4711 (Cherry Hill Bus East) or 856-661-4802 (Cherry Hill Bus West).
