*** Paving of Village Square Place ***

Village Square Place is being re-paved, beginning this coming Tuesday, March 8. The paving contractor intends to maintain one-lane access along the road throughout the project, however, delays in travel may occur from time-to-time, so please plan accordingly. The paving work should take a few days; striping will occur afterwards. This project has been pursued by the Village Square Center Owners Association, of which Woodlake Community Association is a member.

Also New Parking Restrictions

For the Loop Lot behind the AFC

Well, that’s progress for you! The new owners of the East West office building along Village Square Place (just past the AFC) have a lot of new tenants in that facility. So much so that parking has become a premium for those who work there and visit there, in terms of the commercial traffic that such services have created. Due to this increase in use, the owners are in need of the loop parking lot and have requested that Woodlake help them with the use of the limited parking spaces. Why is this? Well, something that is little known, is that the entire parking lot on that side of the loop is not Woodlake property; it is a parcel of land owned by the owners of the East West building.

Therefore, everyone that is not actually working at or visiting the East West building is requested to no longer park in that lot during business hours – that being 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The parking lot in the front of the AFC and the large, three-tiered lot on the right is for Woodlake residents and our guests. Please park only in these lots on Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. This would include parking for any owner/resident use of the trail, the playground, the picnic shelter, the pavilion, or the marina, etc. The parking restrictions for the loop lot are not in place before or after business hours, nor on weekends. Thank you in advance for helping us be good neighbors by your properly timed use of the loop lot.

English Ivy

English ivy is a non-native, invasive vine that is spreading throughout Woodlake. When the vines climb up into trees it covers the branches and twigs, reducing sunlight available to the tree which it needs for photosynthesis. This weakens the tree, and its health will slowly decline for many years before eventually dying. Additionally, the added weight of vines makes the affected trees more susceptible to blowing over during storms.

The Woodlake Environmental and Maintenance Committee has recently begun a long-term project to address the trees in our common areas that are covered in ivy. Volunteers will be cutting and removing sections of the vines at the base of the trees. This will cause the vines above the cuts to die and eventually fall from the tree, thus freeing the tree of the smothering ivy.

At this time, no attempt will be made by the volunteers to pull or chemically treat the ivy on the ground surrounding the impacted trees due to the extensive effort required and the hazards associated with exposure to potentially toxic chemicals. This will lead to the ivy again climbing the trees, but future control efforts will be made much easier as result of these actions.
