SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Dear Lycée Community,

Welcome back from what we hope was a restful and healthy break. Today is the beginning of the third and last trimester of the school year. It seems as if these last few months went by in a flash! As always, the last trimester is busy and sometimes difficult for our students because several important exams will take place: the DELF, the Brevet des Collèges (French Middle School Diploma) for our 9th graders and the LEAP test. Please expect our students to take the LEAP this year. While it is still required at the federal and state level under ESSA (Every Students Succeeds Act), we are happy to have this assessment to measure our performance against the one of other students in our city and state. Information on the schedule for LEAP testing will be sent in due time. For the moment, we will continue to focus on teaching and learning.

Today I am also writing with a couple of staffing updates.

Johnson Campus Principal: As you know, Chana Benenson is on maternity leave, however, next year, she will focus her leadership on the high school. During the last few months, we have conducted a search for a new principal to take on the leadership at the Johnson Campus. It turned out to be an international affair, with great candidates from our city, out of state, and out of the country. We are excited to let you know we have offered the position to Gina BIanchi, a 10 year veteran and experienced leader of a successful French Immersion School in Milwaukee, a fluent speaker of French, an expert on bilingual education and pedagogy, and a strong believer in diversity, equity and inclusion. Ms. Gina will begin working with us on March 15th. A bio with more information will be sent before then, and we will work out opportunities for you to meet with her. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Gina to our amazing community.

Director of Exceptional Student Services: After pursuing formal education in organizational leadership and development, Mandi Lehnherr, current Director of Exceptional Student Services, is making a career transition and her last day with Lycée will be Friday, March 19. Mandi is grateful to have worked alongside wonderful colleagues and families for the last three years and is committed to ensuring there is a smooth and thoughtful transition plan in place for this role. A series of interviews for the prospective director is scheduled for the next two weeks. We will dearly miss Mandi, who had a transformational impact on Lycée’s ESS department, however, we wish her great success in her new professional pursuits. ESS families will receive more detailed information regarding this plan.

As we return to school in-person, we want to thank you for your assistance regarding following all of our COVID protocols so we can implement safe mitigating measures that protect our students, families and staff. Please do not bring your child to school if s/he has COVID-related symptoms.

Happy first day back! We cannot wait to see our students tomorrow.
Marina

Lexia!
Now that we have shifted back to virtual learning, here is a reminder about Lexia! Elementary teachers assign Lexia assignments on a weekly basis, it is an independent and research-based program that students should use regularly to boost their reading skills.

Did you know that in grades K-5, LFNO uses Lexia not just to boost foundational and advanced reading skills, but also to guide literacy instruction?

As students complete units, teachers can use the targeted skill builder lessons to intersect with any skills that were not completely mastered in the lessons. It is important that students are practicing regularly and meeting the recommended usage minutes in order to get the most out of this research-proven, and nationally recognized literacy program.

Lexia is proven to close the literacy gap when used with commitment and fidelity! If you are having trouble setting up or logging into your account, please let Ms. Annie Neahring know.
EXCEPTIONAL STUDENT SERICES
Gifted & Talented referrals close on Friday, March 5. Before referring, we strongly encourage you to speak with your student’s teachers about your referral to gain their insights as they are a large part of the process. You can find more information and the Google referral form here.
