ECMN Youth Day Trip to Jay Cooke State Park
Saturday, October 30th
ECMN youth of all ages (grades 6 and up - middle & high school youth) are invited to an outdoor fall day trip at Jay Cooke State Park, just outside of Duluth. This will be a low-key gathering for connecting with old friends and making new ones. Enjoy good company with games, outdoor activities, soul tending, and Eucharist. St. David's Children and Youth Minister, Anna Brock, will be chaperoning this trip.

We will be utilizing the Group Camp Area. Programming at Jay Cooke State Parks begins at 11am and concludes at 3:45pm.

A bus will be providing transportation from St. Mark's Cathedral for those wishing to get a ride to the programming. The bus will leave Minneapolis at 8:30am and arrive back in Minneapolis at 6pm. Masks are required on the bus.

If you are registered and would rather organize a carpool for transportation instead of a bus, please email abrock@stdavidsparish.org

Vestry Update from October
The Vestry met in person on Monday, October 18th at 7pm in the St. David’s Library. Rector Katherine opened the meeting with Gospel based discipleship. Robby Stokes updated the Vestry on the current status of the Endowment and answered questions. Vestry members gave updates on their vision work. St. David’s plans to begin composting in January and is looking for members for a Green Team to help with the transition and possibly apply for grant money. The September Minutes and Financials were accepted and unanimously approved. The Vestry is excited for JUSTMove and is planning to debrief about what we learned right before the next Vestry meeting on November 15th. There will be a Fall Clean Up for the St. David’s grounds as soon as the majority of leaves have fallen so keep an eye out for an email from the church asking for volunteers. The Boy Scouts will also be helping us with our fall clean up. The Annual Giving Campaign is off to a good start. We have 37 pledges so far out of the 100 or so we usually get. Thank you so much to all who have pledged! We plan to wrap up the Giving Campaign by November 7th. The Vestry is considering people for two Vestry positions as well as a new Jr. Warden. If you are interested in being on the Vestry or a part of the Green Team please email huldah.violin@gmail.com

Respectfully Submitted,
Huldah Niles, Sr. Warden

LOVING GOD. LOVING ONE ANOTHER.
St. David's Quarterly Financial Snapshot – Q3 2021
September income was slightly higher than budget and expenses continue to be less than budget. Year-to-date through 3rd Quarter, our income is ahead of budget by 5% and our expenses are lower than budget by 11%. Expenses are lower this year due to lower than planned staffing levels and limited activities due to the Covid pandemic. Net Income through Q3 is $43,267 which is significantly higher than the planned Net Income of (%5,559) at September month-end. As we move into 2022, we expect to see expenses increase as we are now at a full staffing level and parish activities are resuming.
Parish finances continue to be stable and we are very grateful for your continued financial support of St. David’s.

God’s Peace,

Families Moving Forward Update
By Carol Johnson and Cathy Schwichtenberg

We are excited to tell you that we are relaunching our relationship with Beacon and their Families Moving Forward program. Since the pandemic, Beacon has been housing FMF families in hotels and plan to continue that for some time to come. They have asked parishes to provide meals to the families by purchasing prepared food and delivering it to the hotel where the families are staying. We are planning to do this in early 2022. We do not have a date yet, but we want to let the St. David’s Community that we are working together to connect with FMF again and we will be coming back to you later this year with details and ways you can participate.

Please see the invitation below to an event on Monday, October 25 where we are invited to learn more about Beacon’s important work to address homelessness.
ICA Update
ICA mission: To offer hope as we provide assistance to our neighbors in need.

Last outdoor produce market 10/23
This Saturday will be the last outdoor produce market of the year. If you know anyone who might be experiencing food insecurity, please let him/her know about this opportunity to choose from a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. All are welcome. No appointment is needed. Masks are recommended. The market will be held at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 715 Minnetonka Mills Road in Hopkins between 9:00 and 11:00 am.
The Great Taste Update
Last Thursday was ICA’s annual Great Taste event. Even though it had to be held virtually once again this year, it was a wonderful celebration of community, generosity and neighbors. By the end of the evening, the event had already raised 90% of its fundraising goal with more donations still coming in! Thanks to those of you who joined in online.

ICA practices environmental stewardship
ICA continues to practice environmental stewardship by minimizing trash and diverting a majority of waste materials into recycling. Last year alone, ICA separated over 100,000 pounds of recyclable materials from trash. That includes roughly 45,000 pounds of organic (spoiled or damaged foods), about 50,000 pounds of cardboard boxes and over 10,000 pounds of other recyclable packaging such as plastics, metals, paper and glass.

By diverting 105,000 pounds of recyclables from 137,000 pounds of total recyclables, ICA achieved a “recycling capture rate” of 76%. By comparison, Hennepin County’s recycling capture rate is 49% and the State of Minnesota is 46%. Congratulations to the ICA team for being such a good community citizen by minimizing both waste and environmental impact.
From the ECMN -- Submit your Blessings
For ECMN Convention--Submit your Blessings!

There has been so much to grieve in the last 20 months. Deferring our in-person gathering for yet another year feels like one more casualty to add to an already huge and precarious stack of things we have lost. But we know that, in the midst of this loss, there have been many gifts, that our God is faithful, abundant, and good. We ask that each of you take some time to reflect on the gifts of the last twenty months and, if you feel so moved, record a video of yourself and tell us about those gifts. We'll compile a video of the blessings our siblings across the diocese have received this year to share.

How to Share Your Blessings:
Record a video of thirty seconds or less and share with us the best thing that has happened in your life, in the life of your family, your congregation, or your community, in the last 20 months.
  1. Use your phone camera!
  2. Begin by introducing yourself and stating where you're from.
  3. Upload your videos here by the end of the day on Tuesday, October 27th.

Email Emilia Seay Allen, your Missioner for Communications, with any questions: emilia.a@episcopalmn.org.

In this time of the coronavirus pandemic, the need to reach our most vulnerable parishioners has been great. Our 11 person Pastoral Care Team has stepped up to the plate and has been regularly calling around 24 St. David's members and families to share in remote fellowship, prayer, and conversation to determine if we, as a community, could help address any of their unmet needs. We are pleased to report that virtually all of these parishioners are doing well so far and have their basic needs met by their facilities and/or family. They are in good spirits and continue to remain resilient in the face of isolation and uncertainty.

If you find yourself in need of food or other resources, please contact:
Steve Johnson at: twokat@centurylink.net or (952) 237-0031
or:
The Rev. Katherine Lewis at: klewis@stdavidsparish.org or (612) 747-5405

and we will assist you in finding solutions.
