January 2022
Our Mission Statement
As a welcoming congregation, we work and worship together to become people of open minds, loving hearts, and helping hands. We honor the transformative power of love in our individual lives and broader communities.
UUFS COVID 19 POLICY

When attending in-person we request that everyone except the person behind the lectern wear a mask, and join us in-person only if you have been fully vaccinated. We will continue to stream the services via Zoom as well. We will not begin Children's RE in our building yet, but plan to resume after our children have had the opportunities to be vaccinated.

Thank you for your understanding, as we try to protect one another.
Now What?

At our 2021 Annual Meeting our Congregation adopted the 8th Principle. This Principle states that we covenant to affirm and promote: “journeying toward spiritual wholeness by working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions.”

So, what does this now mean for our congregation? It means that this covenant becomes one of the central tenants of our Unitarian Universalist faith and action. We lift it up with other principles as we live our daily lives, work in our communities, and attempt to build that beloved community. This should mean that our congregation will use these ideas, along with the ideas expressed in our seven principles, as we shape our programs, activities, and areas of ministry. It means that our minister (that would be me) and folks providing programming for our congregation consider this principle as we select programming for this year. It means that we lean into this as we determine the kinds of social justice activities that we will engage in. It means that we seek ways to use our financial offerings in meaningful ways to build this beloved Community. It means we seek ways to be accountable for our actions and work.

And we can begin moving more in this direction This MONTH! We invite you to engage in programs, especially those related to antiracism and other oppressions this month. In addition to sermons by Clint Tawes and Rev. Jane, our MLK Sunday speakers, Renata Newbill Jallow and Dr. Saba Jallow will provide messages that live into this 8th Principle. We can also join with other community members in honoring the ideas of Martin Luther King, Jr. and others by attending community activities for this purpose. Some of these are announced in this newsletter and others will be shared via our weekly blasts. And, we can invite others to join us on this journey toward spiritual wholeness by working with us to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and our institutions. Let’s do this!
Peace, Love and Courage !

By Rev. Jane Page

For many obvious reasons, some of us have been in a bit of a funk lately. And if we are waiting for something overnight to change our personal, congregational, community, and world situations, that’s just not going to happen. We have to pull ourselves up and envision ways we can use the various life situations that have been given to us to grow and move forward. We need to not just survive, but thrive. In fact, folks – I believe we are in need of some CELEBRATION!

My messages from January through May of this year will be connected to the theme of celebration. And whatever my topic is, we are going to find ways to celebrate it! Now that doesn’t mean that we ignore the real concerns and problems we face. We’ve gotten pretty good at trying to address them in meaningful ways. But it does mean that we are ALSO going to try to envision how we can live a life centered in joy and celebration while we do the good work that must be done. I need a little more celebration in my life, and I’m sure you probably do, as well.

Come celebrate at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Statesboro!!

Giving via VENMO!
We want to make it EASY for you to share with us! Many of you use VENMO – and others should think about getting this app and connecting it to your bank account. Then, when you want to send money to your grandchild or to your congregation, it just takes a couple of clicks to do that. Our VENMO name is @UUStatesboro.
Go to your apps store to get the VENMO app, then just follow the directions to set it up! Neither you nor the church will be charged anything.

There is a place to tell what it’s for. IF it’s to count toward your pledge, please write pledge in that space. If it’s for some special project we are fundraising for, you can put that. Easy Peasy!
Our tradition of giving away half of the offering that is not designated as a pledge continues in 2021, with some adjustments. For now, all offerings will continue to be shared with Reverend Jane's Helping Hands Fund to directly help people in our community.

Thank you for your continued support and faithfulness to our congregation, which allows us to remain steadfast in our commitment to serving our community.
