OTTAWA PUBLIC HEALTH UPDATE
We can work together to prevent further transmission of COVID-19, keep schools, businesses, places of worship, childcare centres and other institutions open and minimize the negative impacts on residents. What you can do?
-
Continue to practice safe use of masks (especially in shared spaces such as break rooms and hallways), physical distancing where possible, cleaning and disinfecting of equipment between each use and encouraging proper hand hygiene and respiratory practices.
OPH recognizes that people will want to gather socially to celebrate the holidays. A cautious approach for planning social gatherings is recommended in light of the recent surge in persons who have tested positive for COVID-19, especially when including children who are not fully vaccinated. See OPH’s Social Wise webpage for recommendations. Further information about preventing COVID-19 transmission in workplaces and community organizations is available on the OPH website.

Ontario Extending COVID-19 Paid Sick Days
The Ontario government is extending its Worker Income Protection Benefit program, which provides paid sick days, until July 31, 2022. Employees can continue to access this paid leave to get tested, vaccinated, self-isolate, or care for a family member. In addition, the province is extending temporary changes to the Employment Standards Act that prevent temporary layoffs of non-unionized employees from becoming unwanted terminations, which can trigger payments and force businesses to close. This measure will now be extended until July 30, 2022.

Our mission is to cultivate a thriving world class
business community.
And we need you! We recently hosted the President & CEO of the Ontario Chamber, Rocco Rossi, as our keynote at our AGM (please watch it!) He inspired us to launch "The Power of One" campaign. He shares a story of why policy matters to each and every one of us. We are approaching a time of immense opportunity to influence important change and your Board of Trade is at the ready. However, the voice of business is only as strong as its membership. So this is the ask!
Please invite one business in your network to be a member today. Invite them to have a say in the future of Ottawa. Send them this membership investment link. In return, we would like to thank you by offering you a 10% referral rebate. That's it. So simple. We want to grow our membership so that we can increase our impact and make Ottawa the best capital city in the world.
