12 For this is what the Lord says:

“I will extend peace to her like a river,

  and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream;

you will nurse and be carried on her arm

  and dandled on her knees.

13 As a mother comforts her child,

  so will I comfort you;

and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.”

– Isaiah 66:12-13

Mothers, you are the thread that holds the fabric of our families together. Mother’s Day reminds us of your love for your children, Mary’s love for Jesus, and Jesus' love for his mother Mary. One of Jesus’ last instructions to his follower John was to care for his mother Mary. Jesus took care of her, not only because it was one of the commandments, but because she had taken care of him.

Jesus, fully man, did what babies do. Baby Jesus needed to be fed and Mary fed him. Joseph couldn’t do that. Baby Jesus needed to be potty trained and taught his ABC’s while Joseph was working in the wood shop. Yes, baby Jesus even pooped his pants, and Mary changed them. Joseph was probably “too busy.” (Moms, you know what I am talking about).

Mary took care of Jesus in their humble home, but now on Calvary’s hill at that dreadful moment on the cross, as Jesus was suffering, he wanted to make sure she was taken care of too.

Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home. -John 19:25-27

But Jesus, fully man and fully God, did something greater than his mother Mary’s earthly care. He took care of her sin. Mothers do so much, but there is one thing they cannot do for themselves or their children- mothers cannot save, but God can and did. Jesus dies on that cross for Mary, and for you mothers reading this right now. Jesus also took care of one of the few things you cannot- He took care of your children’s sins.

Mom, thank you for always taking care of me, your son here on earth. Thank you for showing me the love Jesus has for me knowing I am saved through him for eternity. I am very blessed, thank you.

Missy, thank you for always taking care of our four children here on earth. Thank you for changing the diapers when I was “too busy.” Thank you so much for showing our children the love Jesus has for them in so many ways. I am very blessed, thank you.

Sunday, we celebrate God’s gift of mothers and continue our series The Tomb is Still Empty. I can’t wait!

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Getting to know the people of Grace Fellowship

Meet the Gross Family:

Jeremy, Tiffany, Jackson, & Jessica!

If you've been to Grace Fellowship for a while, you know that the Gross family has a hand in many things to help grow God's kingdom. Jeremy can be found running tech and sound on any given Sunday, to serving on the Leadership Board, and sharing his jack-of-all-trades skill set with completing projects here and there to improve our space. Tiffany is just as involved with sharing her love for worship on Sunday mornings and leading The Chosen Bible study during the week. Together, they both served on our Awana team to help teach Grace kids about Jesus.

Jackson and Jessica love to serve in musical ways, occasionally playing piano and singing on Sunday or for special events and they have been known to spend many after-hours here at church while their parents are serving. We praise God for the Gross's love and dedication to serving our Lord!

How long have you lived in the valley?

We have lived in Eagle for 19 years. Prior to that, Tiffany and I called Durango home for almost 8 years.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Spare time? Haha! The kids are always involved in some manner of sports, music, and drama club. We love getting away for a camping trip whenever we can and enjoy hosting game nights with friends.

Share something fun about yourself that we might not already know.

We came to Eagle 19 years ago for a job opportunity but didn't fully grasp just how expensive it was to live in this valley (even back then!) We had a Realtor show us home after home until we finally realized that if we were going to afford a house we would have to do it ourselves. So we did! We bought a lot, hired contractors, and spent the better part of a year devoting all our time outside of our regular jobs to laying floors, painting walls, installing doors, plumbing bathrooms, and a million other things we could do to offset the cost of building. Bet you didn't know Tiffany can back-butter a floor tile! 19 years later, we're still in the same house that quite literally contains our blood, sweat, and tears :-).

Come celebrate our Moms on Sunday at 9 am & 11 am. Join us for fellowship between services

before you whisk mom away to spoil her.

Prayers

LORD JESUS, HEAL OUR LAND, OUR BODIES, AND OUR HEARTS.

Please pray for. . .

  • Oliver, a little boy in our valley who has been very sick, has made amazing progress. He can now drink, make facial expressions, and can stand and walk. We praise you Lord, for answering prayers according to Your will.

  • Rachel's unborn baby that is too small in the womb for its gestational stage. We pray that you provide Rachel and her husband answers after they meet with specialists this week and that you help their baby continue to grow and thrive and to be born healthy and strong.

  • Jodie's father, Jerry, who is finished with cancer treatment and is now in remission and feeling great! Praise God for the miracle of modern medicine and wonderful medical staff for getting Jerry through it.

  • Diana and Pauline's family, who is mourning the loss of Daniel, a young man who took his own life last week. Please lift up all of them especially Angel, Daniel's girlfriend, and their two young daughters Emma and Emilia as they deal with their sadness and grief. Lord, wrap your loving arms around them and remind them of your hope and peace.

  • Hope in Jesus to rise within our valley and our world for the many hurting people out there. Help us to continue to shine the Light in the darkness, share the Good News with others, and minister to those around us.

  • Carol Proffitt, who has been sick and is homebound, and her daughter Pam who is caring for her. Grant them peace and comfort.

  • everyone in our congregation and their families who are dealing with the pains and trials of cancer and other illnesses including Todd Purse; Connie Kerr; Keith; Chris; Sharon Hlavinka; Rance Ketterling; Darlee, Amanda; Jerry Wiisanen; Rosemarie; April; Suzanne, Mary's sister-in-law; Bonnie Lamotta; Mark Von Soosten, Aaron, and Ryan.
