A Summer Filled with  Excitement
AMTA-KY Chapter President Letter
I hope everyone has been enjoying their summer.  The past 6 months have flown by so fast for me. In June, I attended the AMTA National Presidents Meeting along with Financial Administrator, Kala Carby and First Vice President, Lisa Chesser.  This meeting proved very important in learning the entire structure of how AMTA National functions and what is expected of us, as Chapter Volunteers.  Two weeks later, The AMTA-KY Chapter Board then gathered in London, Ky where we held our Board Strategic Planning Meeting. Melissa Wolz was sworn in as our Chapter Secretary resulting in the final Board Position being filled. I am proud to say, we not only have a full KY Chapter Board, but we have most Chapter Chair Positions filled. In August, the entire board, long with our Delegates, attended the AMTA Chapter Volunteer Orientation Program, (CVOP) in Washington, DC prior to the National Convention.  CVOP covered information on Communication Skills, Contract Workflow, Financial Compliance, AMTA Policy Adherence and how to keep our Chapter on the Road to Success.

What are we working on now? Our main priority is our 2019 Spring Conference.  The Conference Committee has been very hard at work planning this spectacular event.  They have listened to our members comments from last year's post conference survey.  We are heading back to the Embassy Suites in Lexington, KY and we are EXCITED to announce our continuing  education  format will look different compared to previous years.

The first upgrade to the conference format will be your choice in ethics classes. We are bringing you TWO different classes to allow you to choose which class best fits you to grow professionally and personally. Ethics is a required class of 3 CE'S every two years and we want to give you the freedom to choose which class benefits you!

We understand that time and money are very valuable. We are honored that you choose to join us at AMTA-KY Conference each year. We want more members to take advantage of attending a HUGE conference right in our backyard. That is why we are leading the way, starting to promote a "TRACK" Education  format.

When you complete your Spring AMTA-KY Conference, you may choose to earn a complete certificate in a specific modality. When you go back to your practice, you will be able to bring a comprehensive education to your massage table. We want to bring VALUE to your education, allowing you to receive a complete education, not just an introduction to a class.

We are super excited to be able to bring this to you. These are extensive classes a very Discounted Price.  You can find more information in the 2019 Conference brochure coming soon in your email and social media.

I would like to say a special Thank You to all who have stepped up to Volunteer.  If you have contacted us and have not heard back, please know that we are still in need of Volunteers.  I am still working on filling some Chair Positions and Committee Members.

Best Regards,
Caren McCarty
Please remember... AMTA-KY needs you , and
YOU need AMTA-KY .

"Volunteers do not necessarily have the time: they just have the heart".

Your AMTA-KY President,
Caren McCarty

AMTA-KY Chapter Goes to Washington, DC

Our Kentucky Chapter had 18 individuals attend the 2018 National AMTA Convention, helping it celebrate it's 75th Anniversary. The AMTA National Convention was the place to be for the massage therapy profession!

Bobbi Junod, representing Kentucky, won Teacher of the Year Award.
She gave an inspiring and amazing speech!

AMTA-KY board members, committee chairs and state delegates at dinner during the CVOP in Washington, DC. It was a great group of people to be spend time with during the week.

House of Delegates Name Has Changed

Serving in a Delegate position is unique in the opportunity to serve at the state level (as delegates for Kentucky) as well as the national level (to the AOD) for the AMTA.  The House of Delegates (HOD) was changed by National AMTA to the Assembly of Delegates (AOD). Rules were changed to better align the goals of the AOD with the new role it plays in the responsibilities of the National Board of Directors. Discussion within the Chapters on proposals was limited. This was due to the voting on proposals being eliminated from Delegates responsibilities. According to the National Bylaws, only the National BOD has the responsibility of voting on proposals.

The new Delegate responsibility is now to discuss if the proposals are ready to be sent to a committee at National that would do research on the topic of the proposal. The committee would then have the task to write the proposal into a professional document to be voted on by National BOD. Another aspect of discussion by Delegates was if there needs to have any modification in scope or focus of the proposal before sending it on.
Massage Therapy Foundation

During The Massage Therapy Foundation reception, Kentucky Chapter was awarded the "Steward Award" for continuous support of the foundation. The award was accepted on behalf of the KY Chapter by Board Member, Lisa Chesser.

2019 Spring Conference Track Options

Massage Applied to Sports - What,Where, When and Why?
Sylvia L Burns LMT and Jane Sereda LMT

Aromatherapy Level 1 Professional Certified Aromatherapist
George Cox or Billy Galloway, Instructor
We cover 41 essential oils in depth. What they do and how to use them to achieve the desired outcome. We also cover the required (by NAHA) chemistry and history of aromatherapy. We also discuss and breakdown a number of diseases and conditions such as Arthritis, Parkinson 's disease, MS, Dysmenorrheal, Depression, etc. We look at the different facets of the disease, what traditional medicine does to treat it, the advantages and disadvantages of that, then look at what aromatherapy can do. We also break into six different lab sessions. In each lab you are required to formulate two specific blends for two specific issues. This gets the attendee into hands-on formulating and blending. The individual gets into the mind set of using essential oils for their physiochemical properties instead of whether they like the scent or not. This is an evidence based class that sites 70+ Pub Med studies and over 50 other studies.

Anatomy Trains in Structure and Function
A revolutionary map with practical results! Transform your view of myofascial anatomy and expand your ability to assess postural and movement patterns, and to create lasting fascial change with your hands. In this new and expanded 21-hour workshop format you will learn about the myofascial tissue and its many roles in the body. You will begin to appreciate how the body incorporates the Anatomy Train Lines to create easy and graceful movement - provided they are in some form of balance and harmony; restriction or weakness in one section can have many knock-on ceffects elsewhere.  This workshop will show you how that happens, how to trace the lines of strain and, most importantly, how you can develop strategies to deal with them.  This is the first workshop to combine Anatomy Trains theory alongside structural and functional anatomy and analysis, blending together the concepts of integrity  with elastic recoil for movement efficiency.
