One evening, Bob Waller of Lorenzo Walker Technical College was hosting a campus tour. Dr. Jamie Weaver was an inquisitive guest on the tour, come to verify the glowing reports she'd heard of the vocational college in Collier County. At Waller's invitation, Dr.
Weaver returned during school hours to talk with students and deepen her understanding of the school and its mission. She took her newfound appreciation for the school back to her Rotary Club of Naples Bay, which then held a meeting on the LWTC campus and participated in the tour en masse.
From that connection a relationship grew that resulted in the Club providing real life experiences in logo design and website management to Rick Ponton's Digital Multimedia class; a donation of tools to the Auto Collision class; a donation of chef's coats to the culinary staff and students; hosting a variety of fundraisers; and identifying students with financial needs to receive specific scholarships.
Most recently, the Rotary Club held a logo design contest for the Digital Multimedia students, to create a logo for one of the Club's service projects, "Kicks for Kids," which provides shoes for Collier County students in need. In addition to cash prizes for the winners, the Club presented shoes to all of the Digital Multimedia students, to thank them for supporting the Club's project.
All of this resulted from one person extending the hand of hospitality to another, and thereby entertaining an angel unawares...
Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. - Hebrews 13:2
