She also noted the importance in times of stress of maintaining collegiality and remembering that words matter in setting the tone of conversations between constituent groups, the Chancellor and the Governing Board.
Board President Brad Monroe welcomed Grossmont College President Denise Whisenhunt to her first Board meeting. He also thanked Interim Vice Chancellor of Business Services Sahar Abushaban and Senior Director of Districtwide Facilities Ken Emmons for providing a recent tour of Cuyamaca College facilities. Grossmont College Student Trustee Benjamin Blevins welcomed President Whisenhunt to the Board meeting and noted that she has hit the ground running in meeting members of the college community. He also attended the topping out ceremony at Cuyamaca College, noting that the structure is going to be an important campus hub.
Blevins also said he has received concerning reports of students having problems trying to enroll and scheduling counseling appointments, and asked for a report on how the situation could be improved. The Board unanimously agreed to move forward with Blevins’ request for an information item to be brought back to the August Board meeting regarding enrollment issues.
Cuyamaca College Student Trustee Kristie Macogay said that she is looking forward to a student government retreat on August 4th, as well as a welcome back event the college will have for students the first week of the fall semester. She also called the topping out ceremony a success.
