Chancellor Lynn Neault reported that she attended a webinar earlier in the day on the impact of the Biden administration’s American Families Plan and the impact on community colleges, including free community college for all. With Congress in impasse over the plan, it is critical to make sure local legislators are aware of the importance of these initiatives to our students, so the District is working on letter-writing campaigns with lawmakers and will be reaching out to student trustees to help provide a student voice.

The Chancellor said it is nice to see people back on campus as the District continues its transition of employees returning after 16 months of working off-site.

Enrollment trends are concerning, tracking significantly lower than the pandemic-impacted fall of 2020. The colleges are launching a welcome-back campaign for students, Promise students are being contacted so they can accelerate forward, and enrollment marketing for both print and social media is in place. A full-court press is on to let students know the campuses are open and eager to serve them.
The District is closing its budget books for last fiscal year, and is in the development of a final budget for fiscal year 2021-2022.
