The Task Force on Gender Equity, charged with assessing institutional practices to promote gender equity among full-time faculty and senior academic leadership, shared its recommendations in a new report.
More than 25 years ago, Patricia Cloonan, PhD, RN, first joined Georgetown’s School of Nursing as a part-time faculty member in public health nursing. Since then, she has served as chair of the Department of Health Systems Administration and dean of the School of Nursing & Health Studies. She has also taught graduate and undergraduate students.

Professor Heather Bradford and Professor Melicia Escobar (NHS’04, DNP’22), leaders in the Nurse-Midwifery/Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and WHNP Programs, were recognized at the annual meeting of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) with the March of Dimes’ Graduate Nursing Scholarship Award.
JV Nable, MD, MS, clerkship director of emergency medicine at the School of Medicine, was recently named the Clerkship Director of the Year by the Clerkship Directors in Emergency Medicine (CDEM). Nable also recently received the Golden Apple Teaching Award from the School of Medicine Class of 2021. He is a member of the Racial Justice Committee for Change.
Eligible medical center staff and AAPs recently received email with a link to vote in the Staff/AAP Advisory Council election. The Bias Reduction and Improvement Coaching (BRIC) program is a train-the-trainer professional development opportunity for a diverse cohort of faculty and staff. The goal of BRIC is to mitigate the impacts of unconscious bias, as this bias affects recruitment, selection, cultivation, promotions and advancement of employees at GUMC. Applications to participate in the BRIC program are due July 30 and the program will start in September. Information sessions about the BRIC program will be held June 9, June 30 and July 27. Enhance your translational science skills this summer with a seven-week online course designed by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), part of the National Institutes of Health. The course, MEDI 501: Principles of Preclinical Translational Science, is offered by NCATS in partnership with the Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences.
