A LIVE NATIVITY ON CHRISTMAS EVE???
When a pandemic throws a wrinkle into your parish's traditional Christmas plans, it calls for a little creativity and fun! One of the possibilities for enriching our Christmas Eve worship is a living nativity. We have a supply of costumes, and we need a cast of willing people. Participants would serve outdoors for one hour and would not have any speaking lines. All ages are welcome, and if we have enough volunteers we will offer multiple shifts to coincide with our 3:00pm, 5:00pm, and 7:00pm Christmas Eve offerings. So if you and/or your family would like to put yourselves into the Christmas story, please let us know! To get more information, or to volunteer to help, please contact Matt Williams. Thanks!

CHRISTMAS: CHOIR & MUSIC
CHRISTMAS CHOIR
Would you like to sing in a choir for Christmas? Now is a great time to join a choir to learn music for Christmas! Treble singers grades 3-12 are invited to rehearse via Zoom on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. with St. John’s Treble Youth RSCM Choir. Teens and adults of all voice parts are invited to rehearse via Zoom on Thursdays at 6:30 with St. John’s Choir. For most of us, our preferred choir experience is in person, but for now St. John’s choirs are meeting this way. After rehearsing our singers record individual videos at home that Jamey Graves assembles and edits for our online services. Contact Alan Reed for details, alan@stje.org or 704-408-7489.
CONTRIBUTIONS FOR MUSIC & FLOWERS
Contributions for Christmas poinsettias and Christmas Eve brass players, along with names to be remembered in the Christmas bulletins, should be received in the office by Wednesday, December 16. Help support the expense of paying for the brass players and decorations for our on-line service, as well as decorations in the gardens, as you honor those whom we love but see no longer, and celebrate those among us today.
EPISCOPAL RELIEF & DEVELOPMENT
As 2020 has unfolded, we have found ourselves living with increasing uncertainty. For many, the result has been a feeling of dismay. As The Episcopal Church's compassionate response to human suffering in the world, our mission at Episcopal Relief & Development has prepared us for these difficult days. Our commitment to those we serve is stronger than ever. Your continued support of our work is another profound source of strength. Your care and generosity make everything we do possible. Your gifts enable us to sow seeds of resilience for children, families and communities around the world.
Thank you for your continued generosity. May God bless you and keep you safe.

ST. JOHN'S ENDOWMENT
In this strange and difficult time in our world, St. John's continues to provide stability, comfort and security for our church, parishioners and our community. These activities are enabled greatly by the St. John's Endowment today and in the future. Gifts to the Endowment can be made by naming St. John's Endowment as a beneficiary in your will or in a number of other estate planning vehicles. Too, naming St. John's Endowment as an IRA beneficiary can provide tremendous tax advantages for your heirs. To learn more about becoming part of St. John's Endowment, contact Reid Joyner (704-651-5999) or Janie McIntyre (704-236-4798) and visit the STJE Endowment webpage.
ROOM IN THE INN UPDATE
As you may have heard, Urban Ministry Center and the Men’s Shelter of Charlotte have joined forces as Roof Above. They are committed to their mission of ending homelessness and providing shelter to everyone in our community. We recently received the following update:
'This winter, Room in the Inn and shelter overflow will be consolidated into 2-3 large sites that allow for more individualized spaces and greater safety for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. This season Roof Above will be primarily managed by paid staff, to accommodate the larger numbers at each site and the safety protocols that will need to be in place. However, WE STILL NEED YOU! We will likely need in-person assistance with check-in, off-site meal preparation, and toiletry donation items for these single-site locations. There will also be opportunities to donate financially to the running of these facilities.'
Janice Stafford and I have been honored to co-chair this ministry on behalf of St. John's since 2016. We were frequently told by our neighbors that St. John’s was one of the nicest places that they stayed. It could not have happened without the many volunteers who gave of their time, talent, and treasure to make it happen. Thank you all!
After much thought and prayer, we are stepping down from this ministry. The door is open for any of our parishioners to take the mantle. At this juncture, it appears that whatever role we as a parish decide to have in this ministry, it will not be as a hosting site. If you feel called to take on the coordinator role for St. John’s participation in the Room in the Inn program, please let us know. We will be happy to help smooth the transition. You may contact us: Janice Stafford (704/351-1577) or Carol Lomax Fortenberry (704/341-1916). Peace!
