A Theology of Fire Drills: After 9-11 and the tragedy at Columbine High School, I worked with UU fire- and police-chaplains. The necessities of their ministries really challenged my Unitarian Universalist beliefs. Especially my beliefs about authority and resilience after experiencing trauma: what is spiritually authoritative for me? And what is for you? -Rev. Joel
We will have services in-person this Sunday and will be Broadcasting as well. We ask that you sign in online for contact tracing purposes. If you are unable to register online, we will have a paper sign-in sheet at the door.

Holiday Decorations
Saturday, December 4, 10-Noon
Please join us to decorate our atrium and sanctuary for the winter holiday season! This is an all-ages activity: several of our children specifically asked about how and when we decorate and requested to get involved, so please check in with your children and youth who might not read our publications and see if they'd like to join. We'll crank some holiday tunes and take-away snack packs will be available for attendees!

Indiana Landmarks Holiday Church Tour
Dec 4, 10 am -2pm
Indiana Landmarks will be hosting a tour of historic Indianapolis Churches. The original All Souls Church building on Alabama street will be among the churches featured! The tour in and around Indianapolis’s Old Northside neighborhood offers insights into the ways 10 Indianapolis churches have adapted to changes in the city and its residents’ spiritual lives.
Indiana Landmarks’ Holiday Church Tour highlights institutions built between 1891 and 1929 to serve residents who settled beyond the city’s core. Focusing on how congregations responded to post-World War II changes that resulted in a neighborhood with increasingly diverse religious and social needs, the event showcases efforts to preserve the historic buildings through creative reuse, community outreach, or liturgical adaptations. The Holiday Church Tour was developed in collaboration with area congregations and the “Old Churches Indy” Instagram account. Gift Making Party In the Makerspace
Dec. 12, 11:30am -3pm
One way we live into our sustainability values (and sometimes our economic realities, too) is by making holiday gifts for those we love. All Souls is hosting a gift-making party on Sunday, December 12th from 11:30am to 3:00pm! Bring your projects, use Makerspace tools and materials, and spend time in good company! We'll have materials for a few simple projects out and waiting, just in case, and we'll have supplies for wrapping gifts, too!

Congregational Meeting
December 12, 2021 at 12:30 via Zoom
At the Dec. 12 congregational meeting, we will be electing members to the Leadership & Nominations Committee, getting reports from our Treasurer and Audit Committee, and voting on bylaws amendments, which include changing the youth membership/voting age as well as several revisions that reflect governance changes we have made as we have more fully embraced policy governance. For more information, including the agenda and links to proposed bylaws amendments, click HERE.

Bridged Youth Get-together
Saturday, December 18th from 7-9pm here at All Souls!
Are you or do you know a recently bridged young adult who might like to catch up with some of their old church friends over the holidays? Join us!
|
|
Dear All,
This will be a low-key Sunday in Faith Formation. The Makerspace will be open from 9:30am to 10:15am for those who'd like to come and center themselves with hands-on activities. There are no after-service programs this Sunday.
As we hold history in accordance with this month's Soul Matters theme, we can celebrate time with our families *and also* hold the truth that, for indigenous people, this holiday hits very differently. We can share a more accurate representation of the Thanksgiving myth...that pilgrims shot guns into the air in celebration and Wampanoag people hurried to the spot, likely anticipating a crisis. We can share indigenous words of thanks that call us back into alignment with the relationship between this land and its original inhabitants. And we can find out and acknowledge whose ancestral land we're on.
In Fellowship,
Sarah.

Coburn Place Christmas Giving Tree
Each Christmas season for 9 years All Souls has supported the residents at Coburn Place. Our church has generously donated gift cards and supplies that go to Coburn's residents who are survivors of interpersonal abuse, live in Coburn's transitional housing, and use their support services. This year we offer three ways to give:
-
Buy SCRIP gift cards and pay through All Souls PayPal. Specify that this is a Coburn donation and Sandy Reiburg will distribute the funds to the areas most needed by Coburn (fuel cards, Meijer, and Wal-Mart). Sandy will also be at the SCRIP table in the Atrium at church on Sundays; purchasing in $25 denominations is helpful. By purchasing through SCRIP, All Souls receives a portion of the donation. Follow the PayPal link found here: https://allsoulsindy.org/connection/donate/
-
Take an ornament gift suggestion and bring items to church by December 19th. Our tree is filled with ideas for giving - no wrapping necessary! Coburn uses donations to stock their pantry and have available to their clients as needed.
-
Purchase items off Coburn's Amazon Wish List Follow the link and order directly from Amazon, they will ship to Coburn’s 38th Street location: Check out my list on Amazon
In 2020, Coburn Place served 884 adults and children and 332 children participated in their services programs. They believe that breaking the cycle of abuse creates stronger people, stronger families and - ultimately - stronger communities. If you have any questions on supporting Coburn, contact Virginia Snell at snellva@yahoo.com. For SCRIP card donation questions, contact Sandy Reiburg at sandyrei@aol.com

Doris Cantrell

ASI involvement: President of Channing Club and Council, served on Membership and Nominating, Hospitality, Outreach, Inclusion/Diversity, Pictorial Directory, IHN, Fund Raising,Pledge and Caring Committees. Belonged to and led several small groups.

|
Richard Atwater
I first came to All Souls in the fall of 1988 and my wife and I were immediately drawn in by 2 things. The first sermon we heard, from Ed Harris, I would paraphrase as “I am standing before you and will absolutely NOT give you any answers. There are some really interesting questions though – Let’s explore them together!” The second factor was a sharing, supportive community, including several similar young families, who we felt connected to, and could share with.

The MidAmerica Nominating Committee Needs Your Help
We are seeking fresh voices for leadership positions to strengthen the future of the MidAmerica Region! We have open positions for the Board of Trustees, Camp Unistar Foundation Board of Directors, Midwest Unitarian Universalist Conference (MUUC), and the MidAmerica Nominating Committee itself. Our region needs energetic people with diverse perspectives to fill these leadership positions. We are working to dismantle the legacy of white supremacy in our faith in order to create a collaborative environment with people from historically marginalized communities.

Introducing Zelle
We have set up a Zelle account for the church. It is a money app, sort of like PayPal, that allows people to send money directly to the church bank account, without revealing their own bank account, or seeing ours. The great thing about it is that it allows us to receive donations with zero cost to the sender or the recipient. We would like to transition to Zelle from Paypal and Tithley. PayPal costs us as much as 3% on every transaction and Tithley about 3.5%. Here is the link to the webpage where you can go to sign up for Zelle https://www.zellepay.com/ First search for your bank to make sure they offer Zelle. Most do.
-
Select “Send” and then “Add New Contact,” Enter All Souls as financial@allsoulsindy.org and then it's quick and easy to choose All Souls when you contribute.
- Add the amount you want to send.
-
Select “Review.” You then need to add a note about the reason you are sending money.
- Review your transaction and then select “Send.”
