Construction Activity

Week of May 1, 2023

Construction activity continues along the I-10 throughout the project area.

  • Bridge widening activity continues across several locations throughout the project, and will continue for the next several months.

  • Earthwork, drainage, and minor demolition work continues along eastbound and westbound I-10.
Intermittent Lane Closures
  • Intermittent single lane closures may be periodically implemented for crews to safely move equipment, perform roadway repairs, and safely enter and exit the project. Please follow all temporary traffic signage while traveling through our construction zone and reduce your traveling speed to 55-mph.

Please note, construction is dependent on many variables including weather, construction material, and crew availability. All schedule information is subject to change.

Project Background
The I-10 Desert Rehab Project segment is a 13-mile stretch of the I-10 freeway near Coachella in Riverside County, between 1.8 miles east of the Dillon Road Interchange and 2 miles east of the Cactus City Rest Area. Construction will take place over the next 3.5 years and includes repaving I-10, updating lane striping, and the addition of an eastbound truck climbing lane. The Cactus City Rest Area will also be closed for 1-2 months during construction.

In addition to repairing and restoring existing roadway pavement and adding an eastbound truck climbing lane, the I-10 Desert Rehab Project will install electric vehicle charging stations at the Cactus City Rest Area, replace and upgrade bridge railings, guardrail systems, and roadway signage, and improve roadway infrastructure including drainage and stormwater treatment systems.
