Updates from City Hall

Friendly Reminder about Carbon Monoxide Safety!

Especially during the winter season, Fire Marshal Fairbanks would like to remind you to be cognizant of concerns and safety around Carbon Monoxide, also known as the "invisible killer". Heating and cooking equipment in your home that burn fuel can be sources of carbon monoxide. Read here to learn more about avoiding carbon monoxide incidents this winter.

Update regarding COVID-19 Vaccination Process
The City of Lakewood's EMS personnel received their first dose of vaccinations at the end of December. Other Phase 1A groups are completing vaccinations and Phase 1B groups are starting to be scheduled. For more information on Ohio's vaccination plan visit bit.ly/OhioVaccine.

The Ohio Department of Health launched a tool on vaccine.coronavirus.ohio.gov to assist citizens looking for a provider that has been allotted vaccines. The tool will be searchable by zip code or county, but it will not be updated in real-time. It is critical that those eligible to receive a vaccine consult local sources to determine up-to-date vaccine availability.

Senior citizens with questions on the vaccination process are urged to contact the Area Agencies on Aging at www.aging.ohio.gov or by calling 1-866-243-5678.
Some things happening in the community...
LakewoodAlive is seeking volunteers to adopt homes this snow shoveling season!

They are working to coordinate neighbors who can shovel for a neighbor-in-need. Their plan to connect neighbors with neighbors is to make it as convenient as possible to help those who are unable to get out and tackle snow removal on their own.

If you are interested in volunteering for LakewoodAlive's Snow Shoveling Program, please contact Matt Clark. Matt can be reached at 216-521-0655 or mclark@lakewoodalive.org. They are looking to make matches for this winter season as soon as possible.
Lakewood Small Business Grant recipient, Cycle Fly, located at 15006 Detroit Avenue opened on January 11. Mayor George was thrilled to help welcome them to the community and participate in a small ribbon cutting ceremony. Cycle Fly is a beat-driven cycling studio in the heart of downtown Lakewood.

Lindey’s Lake House, located at 15625 Detroit Avenue, will be rebranding and reformatting their restaurant to an Italian menu known as Bar Italia. While a new menu and website are not yet available, look for a reopening in the next several weeks.
A message from one of our H2O Volunteers:

On Jan. 18th, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Help to Others (the City of Lakewood's locally active youth service group) and the Race and Diversity Club at LHS are partnering with renowned organization Bessie's Angels to host their annual day of service in honor of the date - with a COVID-19 conscious twist! High school students of all ages are encouraged to join a virtual meeting that morning, during which club leaders, participants, and representatives from Bessie's Angels will be discussing their mission to aid in "NURTURING, educating, empowering, and providing low income housing to young women who have aged out of foster care." (1) All discourse will be followed with the beginning of the club's donation drive! With its rich history of community involvement, H2O invites Lakewood to assist in this drive, accepting new or like-new items including:
  • Cookware
  • Cooking utensils
  • Pot holders
  • Dish towels
  • Spices
  • NO dishes
  • Full size feminine bath/hygiene products
  • New towels/washcloths
  • Journals
  • Pens
  • New gloves, hats, and warm scarves
Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated! If you have items you would like to donate, please drop them off on Saturday, January 23rd between 10:00-noon at Lakewood High School (driveway along Franklin Blvd). After that, donations can be dropped off at the City of Lakewood’s Division of Youth (12900 Madison Ave.) by appointment. Call (216)529-6045 for more information about donating.
