Happy Friday St. Louis Families!
Every day is a learning day here at St. Louis. As I visited classrooms this week, students were engaged in discussions, collaboration, creating a hypothesis and performing a scientific investigation through interactive labs, preparing for the annual Wax Museum, reading and sharing about compassion and forgiveness, and trying to find the right sounds for snow in music on various instruments. So many moments of laughter and enthusiasm sparked with the joy that comes with making connections.
Our second week of Scantron (grades 3-7) and HMH (grades K-2) assessments is completed, and we prepare for one more week. We welcomed our all-virtual students to the building this week to also have them complete the mid-year assessments—we look forward to seeing everyone’s growth and progress. Scores will be sent home with the trimester 2 report cards. Know that we are at the mid-trimester point and interim reports will be sent home with students Thursday or Friday depending on the team day, and parents of all-virtual students will receive them electronically. Interim reports are prepared for students who have less than an 80% in a content area or to students in the primary grades if students are not progressing at the grade level. With the mid-trimester point, also comes a change in Specials classes for grades K-5. Classroom teachers will be updating their teacher pages accordingly and communicating the change in Specials rotation for your child—the change starts Feb. 1st. In some cases, Zoom schedules will also need to be updated to different times because of the change in Specials classes. We do try to minimize those schedule disruptions to the extent possible for families, but there are certain absolutes within our schedule that can’t be changed, and so we need to work around those. I am grateful for everyone’s flexibility, patience, and grace.
Looking ahead, Catholic Schools Week begins, Sunday, January 31st. Typically, students begin the week together with 8:45am Mass, but because of the pandemic and restrictions placed on group gatherings, we encourage each family to attend Mass on January 31st as a family and ask that your student(s) proudly wear their school uniform. There are some wonderful activities planned for that week that help celebrate what is uniquely special about Catholic education and St. Louis. We look forward to sharing the spirit of the week with all of our families!
Please don’t forget that we are currently re-registering our families through February 12th. Information and reminders are also listed below. Wishing each of you a fantastic weekend!
Peace,
