Dear Class of 2021 Families and Seniors,

You've made it to your final semester at Hoban. This year has been anything but typical – for our educators, families and, most especially, for you. While it hasn't been a typical year, you have led the school in so many successes. Your time, accomplishments and contributions at Hoban will be celebrated!

We are optimistic about the following plans to celebrate end-of-year events. Still, we have learned that we must always remind ourselves that all plans require backup plans. Any changes will be communicated. Keep up the great work and finish the year strong!

Senior Parent Meeting
Monday, Feb. 8

We invite you to attend a virtual senior parent meeting on Monday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the plans for senior events and second-semester academic information. Panelists will include Interim President Brother James Spooner, Principal Dr. Emily Ramos, Associate Principal of Student Services Mrs. Jennifer Mattes, Associate Principal and Dean of Students Mr. Tim Lucey ’97 and After-Prom Chair Mrs. Becky Vieltorf.

Prom and After-Prom
Friday, April 23

The decision has been made to move the Class of 2021 Prom to Friday, April 23 at Guy’s Party Center. Guy’s Party Center has confirmed that the space can be appropriately distanced so seniors can have dinner as a group and a traditional prom experience.

A group of parents has been working on coordinating After-Prom. This year, After-Prom will also be held at Guy’s Party Center. This decision was made because Akron University Rec Center is currently not accepting outside groups on campus for events. Additional information will be forthcoming from the After-Prom Committee with details and ways to get involved.

Alumni Senior Breakfast, Mass and Painting of Hoban Letters
Tuesday, May 18

More information to be announced.

Commencement and Baccalaureate Mass
Sunday, May 23

Commencement and Baccalaureate Mass will take place on Sunday, May 23 at 10 a.m. at Akron Civic Theatre. The Theatre has confirmed they are able to accommodate traditional graduations. A limited number of tickets per family will be available, and the event will be livestreamed by a professional media company associated with the Theatre for extended family and friends.

Due to the unpredictability of COVID, we have alternative plans for each of these events should the situation arise. We will briefly share these alternatives at the Senior Parent Meeting but will primarily focus the discussion on the current plans.
