Yesterday's violent attacks on the United States Capitol, during Congress' certification of the Electoral College votes, profoundly traumatized our nation. These acts of a politically motivated mob not only desecrated our country's most sacred secular edifice, but terrorized Members of the United States Senate, House of Representatives and their staffs, vandalized public property, injured and mortally wounded human life. The images of these riotous terrorists, many of whom carried weapons and Confederate flags, invading and bringing about destruction in the hallowed halls of the Capitol, will forever haunt our collective memory, evoking traumatic emotions of violation, fear and heartache.
The San Francisco Interfaith Council resolutely condemns yesterday's assaults and those who sought to sow the seeds of hatred and division that incited them. May all those complicit in these atrocities be held accountable and brought to justice.
At the dawn of this new day, with all of its hopes and possibilities, we implore people of faith to fervently pray for peace and unity in our nation, and may those prayers, actualized in our civility and kindness toward one another, bring healing to our nation.
