MYC Extended Day Program:          February 2021!

Happy February! We can't believe we are already starting the second month of our Extended Day afternoon program in 2021! This program will coincide with the Hockomock Area YMCA's Out of School Time Program and families can sign their children up for one or both programs, depending on the need and availability. With the return to hybrid school, we are returning to having Extended Day according to cohorts. Students in Cohort B will attend on Monday and Tuesday and students in Cohort A will attend on Thursday and Friday.

The Out of School Time Program assists with remote learning during the school day and the Extended Day offers a wide variety of programs during the afternoon. More information about the YMCA Out of School Program is available here and more information about our Extended Day is here.

  • Please register at least one week before your desired start date to allow for completing required documents and to check for availability;
  • If you are signing up for the remote learning program and you are creating an account for the first time, click on "Bernon Family Branch" to get to the next step;
  • There is limited availability for the YMCA Remote Learning Program: 52 youth/day and for the MYC Extended day Program: 30 youth/day.

This month during the MYC Extended Day Program, we are able to offer great programs, including arts & crafts, STEAM, nutrition, gardening thanks to Lindsay Weaver and the Greenleaf Garden Club, a HITT workout with Carly, thanks to the support of the Milford Regional Medical Center, and a special training session with the MYC's therapy dog in training Cora thanks to Jen Davitt of Infinite Paws-Ibilities Dog Training & Behavior Modification! With the return to a hybrid schedule, the MYC Extended Day Program runs from 2:15 PM to 5:00 PM.

Safety is our top priority, and all guidelines will be followed.

Thanks to the outreach of support from our volunteers, staff, Milford TV, and our other community members we have been able to continue to offer virtual programs on our Facebook page, the Milford TV app for your phone and/or on the Milford TV local access channel! You now can participate in some of our short virtual tutorials, crafts, activity ideas and other programs right from home. You can also check out any previous programming here!

  Grab N Go Food Programs!
In addition to daily programming, the Center also offers a free snack and dinner program, thanks to the collaboration of CACFP, Hockomock Area YMCA and the Milford School Food & Nutrition Services department. We will be able to offer our Grab N Go dinner and snack program from Monday to Friday. We are requiring that families call or email ahead to guarantee food. Please check our Facebook for any changes due to school holidays or snow days.

During the past month, we helped provide more than 550 snacks and 300 dinners to Milford Students!

This program is available for past and present members of the Milford Youth Center and is a free pickup service of snack and dinner. To guarantee we have food available, we are using an order ahead method. Please call and leave a message for us at 508-473-1756 or send an email to [email protected] before 9am on the day you want to pick up in order to guarantee food! Pickup is between 11am-3pm!

(Example: if you would like snack and dinners for Monday, you will need to call and order it by 9 am on Monday to guarantee the amount needed. If you do not order by 9 am, we will unfortunately only be able to offer snacks rather than dinner and a snack)!
  Welcome the New MYC Assistant Director!

We are very excited to introduce our new Assistant Director, Emily Barnes!  Emily is "very excited to be joining the team! I am a mom of 2 young children, Autumn who is 5 and Julian who is 2. I enjoy hiking, Zumba and New England sports, especially the Red Sox. I have been working with children for over 15 years. Most of my experience comes from working in the before and after school and summer camp capacities. My favorite thing about working with kids is watching them learn and grow and seeing the amazing transformations they have over the years! I am looking forward to meeting all of the wonderful children and families at the Milford Youth Center!"

  ONEHOPE Wine Fundraiser to Support MYC!

We have some exciting news! Leanne Velky, of the Milford MA Rotary Club and also a ONEHOPE Wine Cause Entrepreneur, created a virtual fundraiser, "Wine for the Milford Youth Center!" 10% of your purchase will be donated back to the MYC!

From humble beginnings and a lofty vision, ONEHOPE founders started selling wine on a mission to change the world. Since then, they have helped thousands to do the same by creating a career opportunity that provides a sense of purpose through sharing wine and raising money for causes closest to them. ONEHOPE has proudly donated over $6M to causes around the world and now you can support the Milford Youth Center!

We would like to thank those who have supported the fundraiser so far including: Jim Sanchioni, Bailey White, Stephanie Sidebottom, Tina Shuker, Allie Hutson, Evan Ward, Carolyn and Susan Curran! We would also like to thank Ray Auger, who had Director Jen Ward and Leanne on his "Happy Hour-ish" live Facebook show to promote the fundraiser! Finally, a HUGE thank you, Leanne, we appreciate your support and for choosing the Center! To purchase yours, click here (must be 21+)! Send us a selfie after it gets delivered so we can thank you on our social media platforms!

Teachers Driving Academy (TDA) Update!
The Teacher's Driving Academy (TDA) would like to share the following update: The RMV has allowed for web-based classroom instruction during this time of the COVID-19 crisis. Many schools throughout the state may not be ready to support the web-based option at this time but here at TDA, we are ready to GO! We are offering the classroom instruction via web-cam for 5 weeks in a row. The only thing at this point that the RMV will not allow online is the FINAL EXAM. They are stating that this has to be done in person. We are CONFIDENT that this will change as this policy was just instituted a few days ago. The fee is only $119 and includes fee to RMV for your driver's education certificate. Click here to register for web-based virtual classroom. If you were already enrolled in for the standard classroom session, you can now switch to a virtual web-based format by clicking here.

Important Info:
  • Virtual Web Based classes are Monday thru Friday, 10am-4pm
  • On Tuesday of each week at 5pm, there will be a web-based parent class
  • For all information visit the website here or email here.
The Milford Youth Center is pleased to partner with Teachers Driving Academy, who offers students a great program, at a reasonable price! We are very grateful for this partnership and the very appreciative of the estimated annual donation of over $25,000 each year! The TDA is also looking for more drivers! Click here for more information.

Milford Youth Center (MYC) mission is to provide a safe environment that promotes self esteem, builds character, and fosters the notion of community and the importance of respecting and serving others. For more information, click here.

The MYC works together with other community organizations to provide resources and opportunities for youth to make healthy decisions. The MYC works to provide local youth with the necessary activities and events that help them develop physically, mentally, socially and emotionally through their childhood years. By providing Milford youth with these types of programs and a safe environment during the after school hours and during our monthly events, we hope to address adolescent risk factors as well as promoting the partnership among community members to ensure a comprehensive vision and plan for the health of the youth in the town of Milford.
