A message from Elaine Tai-Lauria, retiring Executive Director of Wilton Library

 Dear Friends,

Ten years ago, I was entrusted with the stewardship of Wilton Library Association and it has been my privilege to serve as Executive Director of this wonderful organization.

Together, we read literature; enjoyed music and art; discussed history, philosophy, medicine, and business; embraced new technologies; explored a variety of social topics, cultures, and methodologies – and all of this while always remaining intellectually curious.

Your keen interest in seeking knowledge and your desire for life-long learning have been catalysts for me and the WLA team. You have inspired us to develop programs that are informative, stimulating, and enjoyable.

I recall my first year on the job when Hurricane Irene hit. The library became a de facto shelter, which enabled me to meet so many of you. We have since remained connected through other storms and even the worst pandemic in 100 years. So it is with much appreciation that I say THANK YOU for your inspiration, partnerships, and friendships that have made the past few years so special.

As I pass the baton to welcome the next Executive Director, I know that the library will continue working to fulfill its mission to inform, enrich, connect, and inspire our community. I am confident Wilton Library’s next chapter will be vibrant, invigorating, and a successful one, and I look forward to joining you to enjoy this remarkable institution as a library patron.

I wish all of you a future full of health, hope and much happiness. Thank you!

With warmest regards,
Elaine Tai-Lauria

Year of the Tiger
This year, the Lunar New Year is celebrated on February 1, and 2022 is the Year of the Tiger. The Tiger is the third animal of the 12-animal Chinese zodiac, and people born in this year tend to be assertive, brave, adventurous, and natural leaders. Recent years of the Tiger include 2010, 1998, 1986, 1974, 1962, 1950, and 1938. In honor of the holiday, our librarians have put together a selection of memoirs and fiction that highlights different Asian cultures and their vibrant contributions to society and history. Happy reading!
