Reunion Ruach Shabbat Service

This is a very unique service, in which we celebrate Shabbat with those who have been connected to our Temple throughout the years and recognize the long time members of Temple Emanu-El.

Green Team River Cleanup

Saturday // April 22nd, 9:00am // In Person


The Green Team is helping to combat habitat destruction and pollution on Earth Day. Saturday, April 22nd. We will be joining Guadalupe River Conservancy in cleaning-up the Guadalupe River Park. The event starts at 9AM only a mile or two from Temple. Please click here to register. Creek clean-up are always fun and entertaining. We hope to see you there.

Brotherhood Bike Ride

Sunday // April 23rd, 9:30am // In Person


Brotherhood is inviting all congregants to join us for a bike ride to participate in Viva Calle SJ (https://www.vivacallesj.org/), an event open to the public in SJ. The city closes down streets along the route so bikers, skaters, and walkers can navigate the streets without traffic. We are planning to meet at Temple at 9:30 on the 23rd, then depart for the nearby rose garden around 10am.

Re-Wedding of Len & Debbie Schreibstein

The honor of your presence is requested on Sunday, the 30th of April at 11:30 in the morning for the reaffirmation of wedding vows of Len & Debbie Schreibstein in the sanctuary of Temple Emanu-El. This community and congregational event is a wonderful part of the Fifth Grade Religious School life cycle curriculum. We hope you plan to attend. Non-Fiction Book Club

Sunday // May 7th, 7:00pm // Zoom


In this book, the author discusses the background, the leadup, the events and the aftermath of the 6-Day War in 1967. Mr. Oren describes the events from the perspective the Israelis, the Arabs and the Western and Soviet leaders who were all involved in some way in the war. He brings both an understanding of history to make this a gripping and important work about one of the most significant events in the 20th century, not only for Israel, but for the entire world.

Community Events

Holocaust/Tolerance Education Exhibit at Temple Emanu-El - Free Museum

April 13 - 20th// 10am // In Person


CHAIM will be at Temple Emanu-El for 3 weeks during the month of April. The purpose of CHAIM is to teach about tolerance and empathy through the lens of the Holocaust. The CHAIM exhibit is appropriate for Jewish kids 5th grade and up, and non-Jews kids 7th and up. This is an important topic for our times.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Course

Available now!


Join instructor Deb Massey for a Youth Mental Health First Aid Course. This course is designed for parents and caregivers of teens as well as professionals working with teens. Participants who complete this course will obtain a certificate of completion. Course will require 2 hours of pre-course work that must be completed online prior to April 30 in order to be eligible for certification. Cost for this training is $30. Lunch will be included.

SJSU Student Leads Free Public Art as Resistance

Available now!


Started in fall 2021 by an interdisciplinary team of faculty and students, and supported by a Humanities for All Quick Grant from the California Humanities Council, a non-profit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities, the walking tours offer in-depth analysis of 12 sites, murals and monuments that provoke community dialogue and engagement. The tours are an extension of the college’s Geography of the Arts initiative, which seeks to engage students and faculty in creative activities in downtown San José.

JCRC Back from Israel

I just landed in the Bay Area after 10 days spent in Israel with JCRC Bay Area and members of BANJO (the Bay Area Network of Jewish Officials).

It was a profoundly meaningful trip exploring Jewish identity as well as personal connection to Israel. The trip was an opportunity to bond as Jewish electeds, and to connect Jewish identity, Jewish values, and their relationship to Israel to the work they do in the Bay Area.
