The NMRA's Turntable is a monthly publication which, like a railroad turntable, will lead you in several directions on the internet.

This e-publication is a collection of railroad and model railroad videos, podcasts, websites, and/or other information freely available on the internet that we think may be of interest to you. The NMRA claims no ownership of this information, nor do we endorse its creators or their websites. The NMRA Turntable will not promote individuals or their for-profit ventures.
A layout tour of the Beer Line replica. In the first half Dubai Trains dissects every track and turnout to understand its function and how the layout might have been operated. In the second half he analyzes how to compress certain scenes for model railroading. The layout and structures are based on actual track blueprints, and recreated with the help of several historical societies.
Kathy uses this product on almost every project she builds. Learn why she prefers to use grout rather than any of the other more traditional scenery materials.
The city of Gainesville, Georgia moved Gainesville Midland Engine 209, a decapod-type locomotive, to a new park nearby. The train was moved to a space on the Midtown Greenway, and will be in the area of the former wye track that the Gainesville Midland used. The city said that relocating the engine will require the use of two large cranes to put the locomotive, tender and caboose on trailers, transport them to the new location at the intersection of Grove and Davis streets, and unload them from the trailers onto the new section of railroad track. This short stop-action video by Go Drone Video Productions shows a part of the lifting operation.

Signals can add a new dimension of prototype credibility to your model railroad, however because of the difficulty of installing them for many modelers they are seldom seen on layouts. In this video Larry Puckett introduces you to dwarf signals from DCC Concepts that are quick and easy to install along with either DCC Concepts iP Digital, Omega, or Analog switch machines, or with Tortoise and similar DC powered switch machines. And in a follow-up video he'll demonstrate how he installs them on his Piedmont Southern layout.

In this step-by-step guide Luke Towan creates an extremely realistic diorama with cars that move and a very cool cyclist! This tutorial is a must-watch if you build dioramas or a model railroad layout, the tutorial is packed full of tips tricks and techniques on building a model train layout., including track laying and ballasting.
"What's Neat This Week" show host Ken Patterson and the NMRA planning committee present this show on the 2022 NMRA National Convention & National Train Show which will be held during the week of Sunday August 7th, 2022 through Saturday August 13th, 2022 in St Louis, Missouri. This is the final episode in the five part series by Boomer Dioramas titled "Modeling A Realistic River Bank" in HO Scale on the Model Railroad. Part One can be viewed here.
NMRAx showed us 4 hours of virtual model railroad clinics that were brought to you by the NMRAx team. This was broadcast LIVE on their NMRA Facebook page & YouTube channel. Starting at 2pm EDT they had 4 hours of clinics that they presented before closing out the night. This has become a regular end-of-the-month video event that you should look out for if you follow us on either the NMRA Facebook page or their YouTube channel.

In this video Ron will show you how to convert and install an old computer power supply for powering model railroad accessories. You can power switch machines, Arduinos for lighting effects and other animation, and other accessories using 12 volt, 5 volt, or 3.3 volt power with this easy conversion of an ATX power supply from a discarded computer.
In this video by Penguin Tutor his project creates a station departure board using a miniature OLED display. This is controlled using a Raspberry Pi which allows the current time to be used to make the display appear more realistic.

The OLED display is created from organic LEDs arranged in a grid. The video includes the view under a microscope where you can see the individual LEDs. These do have a limited lifetime and may start to deteriorate after 1000 hours use.
November is National Model Railroad Month! The Piedmont Division of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) celebrates November every year with a public "tour" of great model railroads in the Atlanta Area, one of which was Dave Bennett's G scale garden railway, the "Decktown & Big Stump Railroad" seen here in this video from the 2020 Pilgrimage.

Another of the Piedmont Pilgrimage layouts that was on the 2020 tour (and also this year's tour) was/is James & Sally Bando's "Grand Western Mining Company" G scale garden railway. The Bando's layout was also open during the 34th National Garden Railway Convention held in Atlanta in 2018.

Ken Patterson's show "What's Neat This Week" featured two amazing women modelers in our hobby. Jenifer Kirk and Angela Sutton. Angela shares her passion for N scale modeling the early days of the Pennsylvania railroad with hand-laid track in code 55 rail. Jenny shares the latest offerings from the UK.

The NMRA Partnership Program is a member benefit that truly has a tangible payback. We've partnered with model railroad manufacturers of all sizes, giving them exposure on our website in return for receiving generous discounts for NMRA members all year long. Some provide members with special codes, others prefer a phone or email order, but all appreciate the additional business from our members. And of course, our members appreciate the extra savings...savings that can actually pay the cost of NMRA membership! Be sure to check back often as new Partners are being added all the time.
The Division Business Car column appears in even-numbered months in NMRA Magazine. It's loaded with great modeling ideas, plus useful information that can help make your Division, Region or 100% NMRA Club even better. The information comes from articles published in Region, Division, and club newsletters. The best of these articles are posted on the NMRA website. You can read the entire archive, from as far back as 2011 right up to the latest posting, by clicking here.
Previous issues of the NMRA Turntable are available on the Turntable Archives page.
