The Perspective from Here
It is said that we are all just stories, and our stories are richer with each interaction no matter how small - provided we listen.
I admit that there are times that I am with someone, but my mind is racing on a million other things that I don't truly hear them. We've all been there, but that doesn't make it right. "Busy" is the badge that so many of us wear when really it should be the badge of "Respect". I value you and will take the time to hear you.
Taking the time to ask questions and understand the other's perspective, seems critical if we are to build our compassion and empathy. And it doesn't have to be the big topics of politics and vaccines, it could be a fussing baby or a sad friend. They just want us to be with them, fully. What we gain in holding space for another, even if we disagree, is a better understanding of them and a richer version of ourselves.
The way we connect with others from the time we are born, influences not only how we view ourselves, but more importantly how we view others. What happens if we are truly present for those interactions? If we slow down and become present with just that person?
Our story grows with each interaction, if we take the time to listen.
That's the perspective from here.
Stay well,
