Parent or Grandparent Helpers Needed
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) will be offered to PK3 and PK4 students this fall. CGS is a beautiful method of catechesis which blends Catholic teachings with Montessori methods. Children are given presentations by CGS trained catechists in a specially prepared room called an Atrium. After a material has been presented to the child they are invited to follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit and work with the materials at their own pace. CGS nurtures children's innate connection with the Divine.
We are looking for three or four parents or grandparents to serve as helpers with the CGS sessions. The sessions start the week of September 12 from 1-2:30 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The sessions end the week of April 24. Sessions do not meet if school is not in session. The CGS Atrium is in the new St. Francis Xavier parish center. A regular helper is needed for each session, so the time obligation is 2 hours once a week. The role of a CGS helper includes assisting the CGS catechist prepare the room, assist children to the bathroom as needed, take photos of children working, help record the children's work, straighten the room up after the session. Children and helpers alike said they loved the time they spent in the Atrium last year. This may be just the blessing you've been looking for!
As with all volunteers working with children in our diocese, a background check and VIRTUS course is required as well as a one-hour CGS helper training session the week of Sept 12.
