May 14, 2021
Since yesterday's CDC announcement, I’ve been listening to John Lennon. No, it’s not Christmas. No, it’s not Jan. 1. No, this hasn’t been a war. But the past 14 months have been a battle and it hasn’t been easy. And many have lost their lives. So we are looking forward to a new year. It looks like one is coming. Vaccinations are available. Summer trips are filled. The normal Fall calendar is on the schedule. The weather is awesome. Yes, NJ still has some worthy precautions in place, but things are looking good.

More seriously I’ve also been reading Psalm 91, it is a Psalm for the CV19 side of this past year. We’ve learned that a few gathered, even over Zoom, together with the Psalms and some prayer, can sustain us week after week in ways that nothing else can. Better even than good summer plans, or the regular normal life schedule (remember how that also wore us down?). So I hope that amidst the biological difficulties of this past year, we have learned that the Spirit can nourish us in ways that we, and those around us, desperately need. And may we learn that again next year. Hopefully, in person.
Psalm 91 (NRSV)
Assurance of God's Protection

You who live in the shelter of the Most High,
    who abide in the shadow of the Almighty,
will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress;
    my God, in whom I trust.”
For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence;

he will cover you with his pinions,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
    his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
You will not fear the terror of the night,
    or the arrow that flies by day,
or the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
   or the destruction that wastes at noonday.
Bike the GAP - rescheduled from last week
Reminder: trip participants are gathering at the Washington Crossing Parking Lot (google map) at 9am tomorrow, Saturday, May 15, for a fun ride to Lumberville (about 28 miles). Anyone else is welcome to join us. And bring $$ for chocolate and croissants.
