City Operations
The next City Council meeting will be in person on Monday, February 7 at 7:30pm, following the Council Committee of the Whole meeting that will begin at 6:30pm. The meetings will be streamed live can be accessed on the City’s YouTube channel. The agenda can be found on the City's website. Bulk Pick-Up: Week of February 7
Bulk pick-up will occur on your regular collection day the week of February 7. Bulk items are picked up once per month during the first FULL week of each month on your regular trash day; Monday-Friday is defined as a full week. Bulk pick-up is limited to four items per pick-up at no charge. All bulk pick-up items that are fabric must be wrapped in plastic. For additional bulk items, to request collection on any other day, or to request a special collection of loose brush, please use the online form. Cost is $10 per bulk item for a special pick-up.
 
Tax Season Is Here
Cleveland Heights municipal income tax is collected by the Regional Income Tax Agency, also known as R.I.T.A. RITA’s electronic filing is now accepting submissions. Citizens can visit ritaohio.com to file Tax Year 2021 individual returns and exemptions. Filing Deadline for 2021 municipal income tax returns is Monday, April 18, 2022.
 
Cain Park Festival Applications
Cain Park is accepting applications for the 2022 Cain Park Arts Festival, which is scheduled to take place July 8-10, 2022. Application deadline is March 4.
Black History Month
2022 is the first year in Cleveland Heights history that three Black, elected Council members have served together. This Black History Month, the City of Cleveland Heights want to recognize Council members Craig Cobb, Anthony Mattox, Jr. and Davida Russell.
 
CH-UH Celebrates #BHM
All throughout February, CH-UH schools are hosting events and educational activities celebrating Black history, achievements and culture. Visit chuh.org to find out more information.
 
‘1619 Project’ Discussion Group
The 1619 Project is an initiative by The New York Times that re-examines the history, and lasting influence, of American slavery on our society. Join Heights Libraries the second Thursday of each month to virtually discuss how the legacy of slavery remains the dominant factor of American political, cultural, and social spheres. PCs for People
Heights Libraries has partnered with the nonprofit PCs for People to distribute free or low-cost computers, laptops, and hotspots to qualifying residents. PCs for People is an income-based assistance program, and eligibility requirements include income documentation for program qualification. Applicants should visit pcsforpeople.org/eligibility/ or call HKIC Computer Lab at (216) 932-3600, ext. 1221, to find out if they are eligible. Preference is given to job seekers, families with school-age children that attend school in Cuyahoga County, and seniors.
 
FutureHeights Neighborhoods Grants
FutureHeights is offering small grants to grassroots or neighborhood groups in Cleveland Heights that have ideas for creative solutions, projects, and programs that build on and enhance existing assets in their neighborhoods. Grants of up to $1,000 to citizen-led neighborhood projects, events, and activities are available. Applications for the spring round of grant-making are due by 5 p.m. on Monday, March 15. Apply to Spring Neighborhood Leadership Workshop Series
Cleveland Heights residents who care about their neighborhood and want to gain skills and resources to take action where they live are invited to apply for the spring leadership workshop series. Those interested in working on a project seeking a FutureHeights Neighborhood Mini-Grant are particularly encouraged to participate in this multidisciplinary leadership development program sponsored by FutureHeights. Applications are due by February 18 at midnight.
 
Vote for your Favorite Local Business
Residents can show their appreciation for locally owned, independent businesses by voting for their favorites in the FutureHeights 2022 Best of the Heights Awards contest. Each ballot will be entered for a chance to win one of four prize packages of gift certificates (each worth a minimum of $250) from local businesses purchased by FutureHeights. Popular categories are included from previous years as well as new categories that recognize the innovation and perseverance of local entrepreneurs such as Best “Made-It-Easy” Online Ordering and Best Pandemic-Safe Dining. Residents can vote online or by using the paper ballot inside the January and February print issues of the Heights Observer. Voting concludes February 15 and winners will be announced in the April issue of the Heights Observer.
