Message from the Principal
Dear DHS staff, students, and families,
There may be a prediction of 6 more weeks of winter, but at the end of those 6 weeks, we hit Spring Break! Sunny days are just ahead of us. In the meantime, consider coming to the school to enjoy a performing arts event (Orchestra festival tonight), sporting event (many are close to playoffs or end-of-season competition), robotics tournament (this weekend!), art show (opening tonight), and much more. Congratulations and best of luck to all of our students participating in these events! Check out the Student Life section to learn about amazing accomplishments in Activities and Athletics.

Sincerely,
Principal Kathryn Anderson

DHS Scholarships for Seniors are due next week!
These scholarships are provided by various individuals, families, and partners in our community. They are need-based, merit-based, and/or service-based, and each scholarship has different requirements. These scholarships are only available to the DHS Senior class, which means that the odds of receiving one of them are higher than if you were to apply for a national scholarship. This scholarship cheat sheet can be helpful when looking at the requirements of each scholarship. Be sure to take note of the deadlines, as most are due February 11th.

DHS scholarships are hosted by Going Merry. Watch this tutorial and follow these steps to access our DHS scholarships:
  1. Create an account in www.goingmerry.com.
  2. From the Menu dropdown in the upper left corner, click on the Profile tab.
  3. Complete your Profile (Contact, Personal, Education, Sports, Extracurriculars, Family, Work Experience, Honors & Awards, Skills & Languages, & Documents).
  4. From the Menu dropdown, hover over the Scholarship tab, and click on Find Scholarships.
  5. In the filter options on your left, turn the button on that says Show Local Scholarships Only in order to access DHS Scholarships. Note: You must list Deerfield High School in the Education section of your Profile in order to view DHS Scholarships.
Some scholarships require you to attach Transcripts, your FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) and/or a letter(s) of recommendation. In order to upload these documents, go to your Profile, and click on Documents at the very bottom. Here are more directions:
  1. TRANSCRIPT: Download your unofficial transcript from Infinite Campus and save it as a PDF. Click on Documents and then click on Upload Document. Select Transcript from the dropdown menu and upload your transcript. *NOTE: Please do not request an official transcript in the Request Document tab.
  2. FAFSA SAR: Login to your FAFSA, click on the link to view your SAR and save page 1 of your SAR as a PDF. You can also find the email showing that your FAFSA has been received and take a screen shot of that email. The EFC (Estimated Family Contribution) on either document is all that is needed. Click on Documents and then click on Upload Document. Select FAFSA SAR from the dropdown menu and upload your document containing the EFC.
  3. LETTER(s) OF RECOMMENDATION: Teachers/Counselors will not give you a physical copy of your letter, so you must request it. Click on Documents and then click on Request Document. Select Request a Recommendation Letter. Enter your recommender’s email address and you may write a message to your recommender as well. Once your letter has been uploaded by your recommender, you will not be able to read the letter but you will be able to see your letter has been uploaded to your profile.
TIP: Some scholarships also have questions you are required to answer. If you do not have information to report, please write “N/A” so that the question is complete.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Thurau at [email protected].

DHS PTO College Scholarship Fund Accepting Donations
For more than 40 years, The Deerfield High School PTO has sponsored an annual college scholarship fund to benefit deserving Deerfield High School seniors. With the rising cost of a college education and the continuing economic strain on many families, especially over the last couple of years, a college degree might be out of financial reach for some of our students.

Please consider making a gift of ANY AMOUNT by March 4th. See the PTO letter linked below for more details about how to contribute to this important fund.
