National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month
As we shared yesterday, throughout this month, we will be focused on the national recognition of January as Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month.

Today's stat: It’s estimated that internationally there are between 20 million and 40 million people in modern slavery today. Globally, an estimated 71% of enslaved people are women and girls, while men and boys account for 29%. Assessing the full scope of human trafficking is difficult because so many cases so often go undetected, something the United Nations refers to as “the hidden figure of crime.” It’s important to be aware that human trafficking is on the rise globally, including in our country, and Wisconsin is not an exception to that increase in cases. In fact, numerous sources place Milwaukee in the top five cities in the US popular for human trafficking.
Mrs. Jones will be hosting a GSA Google Meet TOMORROW, Thursday, January 7th during Advisory. This meet is open to all members of the LGBTQ community as well as their allies. This meet will serve as a supportive, safe place to talk openly about current issues facing the LGBTQ community, both as a group and individually. Please send an email to jonesj@kmsd.edu with a brief description of why you'd like to be a part of this meet, and Mrs. Jones will provide you with an invite.

The information provided will cover: the junior/senior timeline, post high school options, and details about college entrance criteria and financial aid/scholarship opportunities. Our goal is to help provide each student with a smooth transition for life beyond high school.

Following this event, counselors will set up an individual conference with each junior to assist with their personal academic and career planning. Parents will receive notification of their student's meeting and are invited to join us virtually for the conference.
In closing, we would like to review communication tools our department uses to share important information around post high school planning.
  • Laser Update! - bi-weekly campus publication, which includes a counseling newsletter to share resources and information for all grade level students and families.
  • Daily announcements - Counseling Center events and resources communication.
  • KMHS website: Counseling page - post high school planning information (college resources, testing, financial aid/scholarships).

We look forward to working with our juniors.
STILL UNDEFEATED IN CONFERENCE!!! The Varsity Girls Basketball Team remained undefeated in conference (7-0) with a 71-43 victory over Mukwonago Tuesday. Grace G. led the way with 31 points and 17 rebounds while Braelyn T. and Mia H. added 13 and 10 points respectively.
The KM Boys Basketball team defeated Mukwonago last night by a score of 64-59. The boys were led by Logan K's 23 points and Jackson V's 20 points. The boys are now 3-1 in the early part of the season. Keep it going boys!

The correct answers to the Jeopardy! themed questions Mr. Bestor asked in honor of National Trivia Day yesterday were:

  • Alex Trebek was the host of Jeopardy! for 37 seasons… in more than 8,000 (specifically, 8,127) episodes!
  • Brad Rutter is the highest money winner of all time in television game show history, with total Jeopardy! winnings of $4,688,436.

Congratulations to these students who answered both questions correctly: Brianna B., and Griffin M., and Mr. Cassini answered correctly as well!
Students - please make sure you are bringing your own masks to school, and wearing them properly! We have extra masks at each entrance for emergencies or replacement needs. They are not designed to be available for daily use.
Students - please remember to wear your student ID every day, and at all times while you are in school. It is very important that you use those IDs (examples: lunchroom, signing in and out, etc.) so we reduce any unnecessary contact.
