Dear Friends,
I have taken on a new title: “Mother of the Bride”!
I’ve actually been in the role for some time now, but the big reveal is next Saturday, Oct 2nd in NYC. My daughter and almost son-in-law, Maura and Victor, are getting married! As you can imagine, I’m getting more excited by the day.
I’m also going to take some time to visit with friends on the East coast. While I’m gone, you will be in good hands for services with The Rev. Julie Nelson at St. Stephen’s and The Rev. Mary Blessing at St. John’s.
In my absence, please contact The Rev. Mary Blessing for any pastoral emergencies (408-219-5306).
I will be taking a break from writing a weekly letter, but will instead include a wonderful poem or other reflection that Ginny Scott chooses for every St. John’s vestry meeting. I’m sure you’ll enjoy them as much as we have.
Please pray for safe traveling for me, and for Maura and Victor’s big day too!
I will be praying for you- as always!
Blessings and peace,
Karen+

COFFEE HOUR - no coffee hour this sunday

O God, our refuge and strength,
our help in times of trouble.
Have mercy on the lands
damaged by fires.
Have mercy on the lands
where the weather has destroyed livelihoods. Protect those who evacuate houses, and strengthen those who rebuild hope so that entire communities may face the future without fear.
Amen.

The Path; A Journey Through the Bible **Update**
***An email was sent out this week to all participants. If you didn't get it but planned to attend, please email Rev. Karen. If you did receive it, please send your reply!***
We will be studying the Bible from Genesis to Revelation one chapter at a time. This is your opportunity to learn more, dig deeper into scripture, and understand how the stories all tie together to tell the overarching story of God’s love for God’s people.
Classes will meet weekly on Wed,11:00am at St. John’s and via zoom at 7pm. The classes will begin Sept 29th. The price of the book is $18.00. If you have notified Rev. Karen that you plan to participate, a book will be available to you next week. If you have not yet signed up but would like to participate, you can purchase the book on your own through Amazon or Forward Movement.

Cardboard needed!
Please bring in all that cardboard you know you’ve been wanting to get rid of! The landscapers (Jessica & Co.) need it for weed control on the embankment.

Poem from the Garden
The Calero High
School students arrived
on Tuesday, ready
to learn and grow in
our shared garden space.
We sheet-mulched alleys
between beds, spending
down the biggest mulch
piles while reducing the
number of weeds that
can go to seed in
the gardeners’ beds.
If you have cardboard
to share, we need it!
— Everyone in the Parish is always invited to our 9am-12pm Saturday morning garden work parties! If you’re interested in volunteering with the Calero students M-Th mornings 9:30-11:30, please reach out to Rev Karen.

Food for thought:
"The true meaning of love one's neighbor is not that it is a command from God which we are to fulfill, but that through it and in it we meet God." -Martin Buber

|
Kudos to:
-Wanda for cleaning up the front bed.
-The Calero students who were on site Tuesday.

NEEDING PRAYER SUPPORT?
Prayer is one of those things we often think about, might feel inadequate about, believe in but might be unsure how to proceed. How we pray is sometimes unique to each of us. The Church provides help in many ways. If you find yourself in need, of any kind (emotional, physical, spiritual, guidance, etc) consider how St. Stephen's can support you:
* there is a prayer chain of committed pray-ers (who maintain confidentiality).
* tell people about your answers to prayer! and the miracles you witness, or how prayer changes YOU.
Please submit prayer requests to Rev. Karen.
