Flu Clinic Postponed Again
Wellspring Lutheran Services still has not received the flu vaccine from their supplier. They will call us to reschedule (again) the flu clinic on a Sunday in November. If you would like to get a flu shot before then, feel free to visit your physician or a pharmacy. Wellspring appreciates your patience and understanding!

Pastor Appreciation Month
From the St. Paul Elders: October is Pastor appreciation month. And we certainly appreciate Pastor Matyas and praise God for the way he has led and served us in this incredibly challenging year. We also thank God for the work of David Schultz, our Director of Family Life Ministries, who works mostly behind the scenes and is incredibly valuable in the work of the pastoral ministry being done at St. Paul. Please pray for them and thank them when you see them. As always, the best way to show your appreciation is by being involved in worship and Bible study and inviting others to do the same. And maybe even laugh at their jokes once in a while. Praise God for the ways we are blessed here at St. Paul.

Food of Faith Volunteers Needed!
Thursday, Nov. 5th - at Messiah Lutheran (Thomas and Henry Sts.) St. Paul has one last Food of Faith Assignment for this year. During the Pandemic, they are distributing the food via drive-thru takeout/pickup, so it only takes 2-3 people until about 5:30pm to get the job done. If you would like to do this easy thing for your community, contact David Schultz.
ALSO NEEDED - St. Paul Food of Faith Program Contact Coordinator - If you are an organized person and a good communicator, consider this easy ministry to help your community. This job is, in large part, communicating between the Food of Faith program leaders and the (usually only four) teams from St. Paul, assisting with scheduling and information. Call David Schultz if you would be interested in helping.

Roll Call Postponed for 2020!
The Roll Call Service and Banquet for 2020 has been postponed. The current plan is to combine the 2020 and 2021 groups next year at the normal time. On top of health concerns (Banquet attenders are often elderly and more susceptible to Covid-19), and school building use policies, we thought being able to use the new facilities in the Ministry Center would be a great way to celebrate these anniversaries and enjoy the new building. After toying with moving it to January/February (already 2021 calendar year), it was decided to combine 2020 and 2021 groups in October of next year. This announcement is intended to serve as a general notice, but a letter will go out to the normal participants for this year celebrating every-10-year observances to let them know specifically about the postponement.

Please Help!
Our Video Display Team desires to add more members to help build playlists and/or operate screens for our worship services. Training is available. We would like to have enough members so that each member serves for one Sunday per month. Anyone interested should call Don Krueger (895-5737).

Please Continue to Help Show Love to Our Construction Crew
Please help by donating bottled drinks and individual bags of salty snacks and nuts or by providing cash or gift cards (Shell gas cards can help us buy ice!). Donations can be left in the back of church, and there is a donation box for monetary gifts. Contact Matt 415-4068 or Heidi 450-0975 with any questions. Thank you!

Stewardship - A Way of Life
John 8:36 - “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” Today we celebrate Reformation Day! Luther is rightly remembered as a champion of the Gospel, but he also called himself “the apostle of good works.” For only in being set free by the Gospel can we do good works. Jesus has set us free, and His blood covers over our sins. We stand before God as His beloved children, and we are invited to live our lives to His glory for the good of His kingdom. STEWARDSHIP – A way of life

Déjà Vu -- Orphan Grain Train Loads Tomorrow For Panama
An unexpected trucking delay this past week prevented the publicized loading of the next Orphan Grain Train international shipment. That shipment has been rescheduled for this Monday. Once again we can say that tomorrow, Monday, Oct. 26, volunteers at Orphan Grain Train-Michigan’s Center in Sebewaing will load a 40-foot high-cube shipping container with 1,400 boxes of humanitarian goods plus wheelchairs, hospital beds, medical equipment, hundreds of quilts, and more. To accompany the Gospel these needed items are being sent in the name of Jesus to Casa de Refugio (House of Refuge) Puerto Caimito, La Chorrera, Panama, for distribution among distressed people. The Panama-bound loading welcomes volunteers willing to help from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., 126 E. Main St., Sebewaing. We know this is a repeat notice from last week. But we trust this time the container will be ready for loading. This shipment will be another exciting culmination of processing goods received from caring Christians, churches, and organizations to support the Orphan Grain Train humanitarian mission. Questions may be directed to Pastor Dave Reed, OGT branch manager (989-600-2264).

Economy Center Help Needed
Our manager, Larry, is having health issues and cannot handle all the donations that come in. We occasionally get furniture and other heavy items that neither he nor the ladies can handle. Men volunteers would be very welcome, someone to call when needed. We also would like more ladies to volunteer as clerks, people to sort and price items. If able to help, call the Economy Center at 989-895-5155 or Larry at 989-280-8343.

Please Support the Foster Children of Wellspring Lutheran Services
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no Wellspring Lutheran Services Auxiliary meeting for September or November 2020, which be when we normally sign up to provide a Christmas gift for a foster child from Bay County. The need to support these children is greater than ever, so the Auxiliary has come up with an alternate plan for congregation members to help with this cause. Wellspring Lutheran Services has asked for either a $30.00 Walmart gift card or a check made out to Wellspring Lutheran Services for $30.00. Please put your cards and checks in an envelope labeled with Wellspring Lutheran Services and St. Paul Lutheran Church on the outside. A donation box will be available in the church narthex, or you can place them in the dropbox hanging by the main school gym entrance. If you have any questions, please contact Darlene Zeilinger (989-737-9937) who will make sure these donations get to Wellspring in November.
First Reading
Revelation 14:6–7
6Then I saw another angel flying directly overhead, with an eternal gospel to proclaim to those who dwell on earth, to every nation and tribe and language and people. 7And he said with a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

Epistle
Romans 3:19–28
19Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. 20For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
21But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— 22the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. 26It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
27Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith. 28For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.

Holy Gospel
John 8:31–36
31So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” 33They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”
34Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. 35The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. 36So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
