Caregivers are a fundamental part of the healthcare system in Canada and play an important role in helping people with intellectual disabilities live full, active, meaningful lives.
Frequently, a family member takes on the role of caregiver for a loved one living with an intellectual disability. Although the love and care that families provide is incomparable, it can lead to caregiver burnout. Caregiver burnout is a state of physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion, which can happen when help isn’t available, or if a caregiver tries to do more than he or she has the time, money, or energy to manage.
Many healthcare experts have been reporting for the past few years that caregiver burnout is becoming quite worrisome, not just for people receiving care but for the caregivers themselves.
If a caregiver is burnt out, the stability and quality of care wavers. In addition, the caregiver can often feel guilt for wanting to take a break and thus neglect their self-care to prioritize care for their loved ones. This can be exacerbated if the caregiver feels as though they are alone and that no one can understand their struggle.
Do you identify with these struggles? Do you feel burnout? Ensemble is here to help and we have resources to assist you. See the links below for more information and reach out to us if you’d like to talk.

Charity Golf Classic a Success!
Par for the Course!
|
|
After a two year absence due to COVID-19 restrictions, we hosted our annual Charity Golf Classic at Sutton Creek Golf Club last week. The tournament, in its 30th year, had a field of 118 golfers, including representatives from five municipalities: Leamington, Amherstburg, Lakeshore, LaSalle, and Kingsville all vying for bragging rights for the annual Municipal Cup Challenge. The Municipal Cup is awarded to the municipal team with the best low score; the Municipality of Leamington came out on top.
Thank you to all of the golfers, sponsors, and volunteers for their support. We can’t thank you enough!
Proceeds from our Charity Golf Classic are directed to summer supports to provide resources to families over the summer months when their children are not in school.

First Nation Symbols Coming to Kingsville
|
|
A crosswalk in downtown Kingsville will soon have a new art design showcasing sacred Indigenous teachings. The designs were brought forward by Caldwell First Nation, Kingsville artist Brianne Taggart and graphic artist Kristine Verbeek. Brianne Taggart is also a New Day, Leaders of Today self-advocate and receives supports from Community Living Essex County. Way to go Brianne!
The artwork is the first of its kind in the Kingsville region, but those involved hope it's not the last.
The fish crosswalk will be located at Pearl Street West and Division Street South and represent displaced Indigenous souls that are returning home to Lake Erie.
Renderings of the artwork coming to a part of Kingsville show a crosswalk with colourful fish swimming south and a circular pathway with animals and their associated Indigenous value.
