Registration for the KNN Conference Is Now Open

The Kern National Network for Caring & Character in Medicine (KNN) is hosting its first national in-person conference. There is no fee to attend, and registration is now open!


The 2022 KNN Conference: Connect, Convene, Catalyze Toward Flourishing takes place 

September 29–30, 2022, at the Hyatt Regency in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.


Join us this fall to celebrate and share transformational work that is shifting the culture of medicine to elevate flourishing and purpose for healthcare leaders, educators and learners. Gather with peers from across the country to help shape the movement to advance human flourishing in healthcare—sparking innovations for medical education and the profession as a whole.

The AAMC's Medical Education Planning Committee seeks self-nominations of medical educators from across the continuum of medical education and with a variety of backgrounds for a term of November 2022 to November 2025.


The AAMC's Medical Education Planning Committee is composed of leaders in the field of medical education. As such, they seek nominees who meet certain criteriaincluding past AAMC involvement, experience reviewing and editing manuscripts for medical education journals and availability for specified activities.


Self-nominations are due no later than Monday, August 15, 11:59pm ET. Please submit your nomination packet, including a completed Areas of Expertise Inventory to the Educational Affairs team at educationalaffairs@aamc.org.

KNN Updates


Alverno Devine, DDiv has joined the KNN program office as a program coordinator and will focus on human flourishing and bridging initiatives along with providing thought leadership to the enhancement of the KNN’s website, digital platforms and visual communications.


KNN colleague Elizabeth H. (Libby) Ellinas, MD, MS, Professor of Anesthesiology, Senior Associate Dean for Women's Leadership, and Director of the Center for the Advancement of Women in Science and Medicine at MCW, was voted Chair-elect of the AAMC Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS). Dr. Ellinas will be installed as Chair-elect in November, installed as the Chair in November 2024 and then serve as immediate Past-chair from 2026-2028.

August 23, 45 pm CT | Human Flourishing 2030: Flourishing in Healthcare Spaces

In this session, healthcare leaders will delve into how factors such as hierarchies and interpersonal dynamics affect the flourishing of practitioners, staff, patients and learners in care settings. In panel format, they will discuss how individual agency and the ability to act on one’s values influences levels of flourishing, as well as how collaborative practice approaches can help those within care settings flourish.
