As a proud sponsor of Environmental Forum of Marin's "Forum 2021," we encourage you to join us for this upcoming event focused on biodiversity in Marin. We will discuss why California is a globally significant biodiversity hotspot, drivers of biodiversity loss, and possible solutions. Each speaker will focus on their area of expertise to provide a comprehensive view of biodiversity within the following ecosystems:
- The ocean, particularly around the shores of Marin
- The plants of Northern California
- Mount Tamalpais and its protected areas

On September 21st, MCL's Land Use and Water Committee submitted a letter to the Marin Municipal Water District regarding a resilient water supply in the face of historic statewide drought conditions. The recommendations include:
-
Proceed with the pipeline over the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge connecting to the East Bay Municipal Utilities District
-
Increase efforts toward reaching greater community conservation goals
-
Implement caps for reasonable use beyond which customers would be subject to penalty fees
-
Do not pursue desalination (the least environmentally sound alternative)
-
Assure no future reduction to water flow to Lagunitas Creek system to ensure suitable habitat for aquatic species
-
Focus on long-term planning for a sustainable water supply in the North Bay
You can support more environmentally-conscious policies by giving to MCL, and/or joining one of our issue committees. Your contribution is deeply appreciated!
