Happy Holidays 2021!
Please join me in welcoming our new Board of Directors, who will work together to refine what SMLMA is and can be to our members and our community. [See the announcement below.]
I want to take a moment and thank our annual Business Partners, who support SCMA/MSSC/MLCMS and the community of physicians we serve. We are grateful for their presence and services to local physicians. If you are looking for a new local bank, realtor, attorney, insurance provider, wealth advisor, etc. please remember you can always make SMLMA your first call for vetted referrals! 707-525-4375.

COVID-19 DEVELOPMENTS AND UPDATES

Up to $55k grants still available to vaccine providers
|
If your practice is administering COVID-19 vaccines, or would like to, there is still time to take advantage of the CalVax Grant program. The application deadline has been pushed to Dec. 17, 2021.

Get your booster before the remaining holidays
|
With more holidays approaching and vaccine protection decreasing with time, encourage your patients to get a COVID-19 booster shot now. Protecting families, schools, workplaces, and ourselves becomes even more important with many people traveling and gathering with family and friends.
The COVID-19 booster vaccines are appropriate for almost everyone 18 and older and six months following the last Pfizer or Moderna vaccination, or two months following Johnson & Johnson. Those who are eligible, and parents/guardians can visit the county websites shown below to sign up for an appointment or find a drop-in location.
Practices administering the COVID-19 vaccines can also review the following resources:

UnitedHealth will repay providers underpaid for
COVID-19 vaccine administration
|
UnitedHealthcare has said it will reprocess claims for COVID-19 vaccine administration after federal investigators found the insurer had underpaid “millions” of providers—paying 40% less than the Medicare rate for administering the COVID-19 vaccine. Such low payments for vaccine administration could threaten patient access to these services and worsen the public health crisis.

CMS to hold physicians harmless from 2023
MIPS penalties amid COVID-19 pandemic
|
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced that it will again this year be granting automatic exceptions from reporting requirements for clinicians and providers participating in Medicare quality reporting programs due to the ongoing disruptions the COVID-19 public health emergency is having on physician practices.

Congratulations, award recipients!

The SCMA Board of Directors is pleased to announce our 2021 award recipients. A tradition since 1985, the annual awards program recognizes exemplary service and contributions to the practice of medicine and community. Please join us in congratulating and thanking our distinguished 2021 awardees.
We've arranged a full measure of recognition with local media and the medical community. Watch for ads later this month in Sonoma Health magazine, the Press Democrat and North Bay Business Journal, and Sonoma Magazine in January. The awards will be presented by the SCMA leadership team at a small, outdoor gathering (attendance is limited due to COVID-19 considerations).
Awardees are listed below. See awards flier for details. P lease download and share the good news with colleagues and friends! And please extend your appreciation to our 2021 sponsors, media partners and SCMA business partners. Without their support, this program would not be possible.

ARE YOU PREPARED?
Reminder: E-prescribing mandate Jan. 1, 2022
|
Assembly Bill (AB) 2789 of 2018 created a state-level mandate that all prescriptions must be transmitted electronically by Jan. 1, 2022. The law applies to all physicians and almost all prescriptions, with very few exceptions. For physicians who have an electronic health record (EHR) system, implementing electronic prescribing may be as simple as turning on an embedded electronic prescribing module. For paper-based practices, selecting a stand-alone electronic prescribing system will likely be less costly and easier to implement than a complete EHR system.

Medi-Cal Rx transition on Jan. 1, 2022
|
On Jan. 1, 2022, the California Department of Health Care Services will transition all Medi-Cal pharmacy services from managed care to fee-for-service (FFS). The Medi-Cal pharmacy benefits and services administered by DHCS in the FFS delivery system is collectively referred to as “Medi-Cal Rx.” The goal of Medi-Cal Rx is to standardize the pharmacy benefit under one delivery system and improve access to pharmacy services with a network that includes a large majority of the state’s pharmacies.
