Advent Giving Guide
The world is in darkness now in so many ways. As is always true at this time of year, the needs of the world can feel overwhelming, crowding in on us, deluging us with urgent asks and invitations to support good and necessary work.
While many of you likely have organizations and causes close to your heart, in addition to your pledges to your home faith community, we also offer this Advent Giving Guide to highlight a few of the excellent ministries in our diocese, bringing light to their corner of Minnesota in unique, Spirit-filled ways. Read about these ministries here, and, if you feel so moved, please support their good work with a gift in any amount.
November was Native American Heritage Month. Please take time this week to read through some of the resources below, and spend some time reflecting with gratitude and celebration on the incredible gifts of our Native neighbors and ancestors.

Find more resources from the Absalom Jones Center here.

Sacred Sites Tours - Minnesota Council of Churches. Although they're on hold for the winter, the Sacred Sites tour is a transformative experience for those who attend. Highly recommended!

Our diocese is blessed with rich diversity, and Ojibwe and Dakota culture, customs, and communities have brought such beauty to our life together. Please take time this week to pray particularly for the Indigenous faith communities of ECMN:

December 1/8/15: Bible Study (Luke)
January: Book Club (The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown)

You can choose to let go of yourself to live a “fake life” for others, or you can embrace who you are and own your life story. You’ll love life, others, and yourself better when you’re authentic.
Live wholeheartedly by switching your mindset from trying to be perfect and identifying yourself with what other’s think, to feeling “I am enough” no matter what happens today. You’ll be more courageous, compassionate, and connected this way. And wholehearted living is a never-ending process, not a milestone.
Strive to DIG deep, especially when you’re tired and stressed by being:
  • Deliberate – Be intentional in what you think and do.
  • Inspired – Get yourself in the right emotional and mental place to feel like yourself.
  • Going – Take action, whether that’s to rest or work harder—just do it.

BISHOPx Forum: Justice and Vitality
Thursday, December 9, 6-7:30pm Online
Join Bishop Loya and folks from across ECMN for this series of monthly gatherings designed to help us deepen our connection to discipleship, justice, innovation, and vitality. We'll hear stories and leading voices on those topics, and then break into small groups to connect with each other and respond. Come prepared to be inspired, challenged, and meet Christ in conversation with your neighbors. Join us on Thursday, December 9 to dive deeper into the Vitality Commitments presented at Convention.
St. John's Advent Food Drive

During the 4 weeks of Advent, please bring items to donate to ECHO. It's been a long time since we have collected food for ECHO here at St. John's. It's time to get back at it! Some of the most requested items are cereal, pasta/sauce, macaroni & cheese, boxed main dishes, condiments, juices, drink mix, personal care items, diapers & wipes (larger sizes and pull-ups too), dish soap, laundry soap, coffee, and tea. The big basket will be back in the entry of St. John's for your donations. Food and supplies make the perfect gift for ECHO! Cash/checks are also welcome. Thanks for your participation!

Your Vestry and Outreach Committee
ALTAR FLOWERS

We will have two bouquets on our Holy Communion Sundays. If you wish to furnish flowers, the cost is $30.00 per Sunday for 2 bouquets. After worship, an altar guild member will present the flowers to a church member who cannot regularly join us. Please consider being a part of this important ministry.
There is a sign-up sheet on the narthex bulletin board.
