A Weekly Update from the Strafford Region

Traffic count season preparations are underway! Luna is seen helping Planning Technician Stephen Geis cut counter tubes that will be laid on the region’s roads this summer. Safety first!

Planning

Planner Mark Davie attended an informational session this week on the Recreation Trails Program at the Department of Natural & Cultural Resources (DNCR) now open application period for 2024 grant awards. Public and private landowners can apply for direct assistance with trail building and some maintenance projects along motorized, nonmotorized, or shared trails. Last year, over $1 million in funding was awarded statewide. Projects in the Strafford Region included track replacement for the Seven Lakes Snowmobile Club, a snowmobile trail reroute in New Durham, and maintenance of the Cotton Valley Rail Trail. A 20% match is required but this may be met by volunteer labor hours or personal equipment use. Know a conservation commission, land conservator, or other group looking to expand trails? Contact Jay Scarborough at DNCR as soon as possible as applications are due June 14th.
