Dear Artists
I am so impressed with WCAN/NH and glad and glad to be part of the group!! The Fall meeting on September 18th at Twiggs Gallery was a wonderful and informative gathering. We celebrated the wonderful Kick-Start! exhibit and listened to Joan Hanley discuss selling art, how her website is designed for maximum potential and her worldwide audience of customers. It was very inspiring.
Since I am new to WCA/NH I am thankful to be “co-president” with Donna Catanazo. Donna has set up good systems to enable our organization to run smoothly and I think we all appreciate this on the Board of Directors. Previous to joining WCA/NH I was President of North Country Studio Workshops (NCSW) a biennial event hosting five-days of art workshops at Bennington College in Bennington, VT. In 2020 NCSW registered 150 artists and just missed the COVID shutdown! The 2022 NCSW event has been delayed to 2023. For more information about NCSW, go to ncsw.org. In my life before retirement, I was a nutritionist for 40 years.
Speaking of events, the Currier Museum has an exhibit of carpets from the Islamic World 10/23-2/27 featuring 32 carpets and one tent dating from the 15th century. On loan from the Saint Louis Art Museum, this collection is considered on of the most significant in the world.At also at the Currier is an exhibit of Alexandria Smith: Memoirs of a Ghost Girlhood, A Black Girl’s Window. International contemporary Artists Alexandria Smith create an immersive multi-media environment employing wallpaper, panel paintings, and sculpture.
As we move into Fall, I’d like to reach out to our membership for volunteers for the BOD(Board of Directors). We have openings and would love to have you investigate what it’s like to be on the BOD.

Have You Ever by Adele Sanborn
I have a piece in the AVA juried show called “Calling from the Moonlight”. My piece, "Have You Ever" is a a spirit house lit from within that challenges the viewer to ask if you have ever reached out for infinity? The show runs from Oct 1-Nov 5, opening October 8, 5 - 7 pm.
I also have a piece in the touring show, Art and Poetry”. The show is presently in Exeter and will tour around the state for a year. I received a third place award for her piece that honors the inaugural poet, Amanda Gorman.

Exhibitions Committee is planning a winter show, “The Colors of Winter.” There is more than “white” and “grey” around us in the cold months. Keep posted for details and call to art.
Exhibition Show Ideas -
We are looking forward to a "Re-awakening" show for March of 2022. Imagine
how it is to transition from winter to spring; from dark to light; from cold
to warm.
How about joining fellow WCA artists on our own cruise on Lake Sunapee? Look
for details coming for a late summer date next year. We will book our own
private "Artists Cruise" to enjoy lunch and scenery. Maybe take time in
Sunapee Harbor to paint and photograph scenery. Hopefully with show of our
work to follow.
June should bring a "Plein Air" event for painters, sketchers and
photographers..

Artist Trading Card’s for 2021
If you are unfamiliar with Artist Trading Cards, they are little pieces of art that we trade, much like kids used to trade baseball cards back in the day.
We ask that each participating artist make six cards, based on a set of themes every other month, and mail them to me. I will then assemble a random collection of cards for each participant, and one set for the archives. Your surprise collection of ATC’s will arrive in the mail a week or two after the deadline! I challenge you to give it a try, especially if you never have made ATC’s before – it might provide a creative spark you weren’t expecting
If you are making an ATC, there is really only one guideline. They measure 2 ½” x 3 ½”. After that, it’s all up to you! ATC’s can be made of any material your creative mind can think of. Many people cut watercolor paper to size and base their work on that, but we have ATC’s in our archives made entirely of fiber, glass and acetate, to name a few. Be creative! Polymer clay, metal, wood, quilting - what is your specialty? ATC’s can be dimensional or flat, painted or collaged, have moving pieces, tags, embellishments or anything you can dream up. Bring your skill set to the practice and see what happens.
In our swap, we use three themes – or jumping off points – to inspire our cards. You can use just one of the suggestions, combine two, or incorporate all three in your ATC. They are only meant as a starting point, and you should bring your own perspective, talents and voice each time you make your cards.
Create a set of six (or seven, if you want to keep one of your own) to make it easy, fun, and cohesive.
Please include the following information on the back of your ATC(or include it with each card in some other way): Your name, the date, and the theme(s) you chose. You may also want to include your website, e-mail, or other contact information.
Send your SIX cards with a self-addressed, stamped envelope (VERY important, if you want to receive cards back!!) and get them to me around the 1st of the month. If you have any questions about the program, please e-mail me at WendyANH@yahoo.com.
