If ever there were a spring day so perfect,
so uplifted by a warm intermittent breeze
that it made you want to throw
open all the windows in the house
and unlatch the door to the canary's cage,
indeed, rip the little door from its jamb,
a day when the cool brick paths
and the garden bursting with peonies
seemed so etched in sunlight
that you felt like taking
a hammer to the glass paperweight
on the living room end table,
releasing the inhabitants
from their snow-covered cottage
so they could walk out,
holding hands and squinting
into this larger dome of blue and white,
well, today is just that kind of day.

Spring Break Construction Projects
Spring cleaning is in full swing, and the site team has been as busy as the bees buzzing around our flowering campus! The two-week break has been filled with cleaning, painting, building, and planting.
The biggest project was the completetion of last year's Fund-a-Need to refresh the front of school at the corner of Sycamore and North Davis. A beautiful new sign made by former woodworking teacher Bill Critchfield has been placed in a carefully crafted landscape designed by DWS parent Enrica Vasta. Make sure to take a stroll out the corner to admire their handiwork!
Special thanks to Bill and Enrica for their time, talent, and expertise.

Ramp Repair
The ramp from the preschool deck into the yard has been replaced - new wood, new railing, and a fresh new look!

Preschool Painting
A big thank you to Mr. Ben for painting the preschool playhouse and benches. Now they match the colorful spring blossoms!

Fund-a-Need 2023: Relocating the Garden
Our school is growing! With a new middle school layout and the addition of a new mulipurpose building planned for the future, we will be moving our school garden to the eastern perimeter of campus. In this new space, we will be able to expand the garden, add more fruit trees, and grow our gardening program.
We need your help to make this happen! Our goal is $25,000. As of 4/14, we have raised $10,167, which means we have a ways to go.
|
We plan to begin this work as soon as possible - a garden takes time to develop and take root. As soon as the site plan is finalized, we will begin soil preparation in the new area and planting trees. We plan to have the new garden fully functional by the end of the next school year.
Click the video below to hear from our students and teachers about what makes the garden so special.

May Faire 2023, Saturday May 6
Throughout history, the burgeoning abundance of spring has been celebrated in many ways. Our May Faire is a festive celebration of Spring filled with flowers, community, and music. May Faire is held on the first Saturday in May and features live music, arts and crafts, games and activities, food, a puppet show, a petting zoo and vendors offering unique items.
As part of the festivities, Kindergarten students search for and find the members of the Royal Court (DWS alumni), and all students participate in the May Faire processional to their throne. The 8th grade students, clothed in all white, perform traditional May Pole dances with colorful ribbons. They are accompanied by live, traditional music performed by the 7th grade students and other musicians. Attended by as many as 500 community members, it is a beautiful way to welcome in Spring. This year's May Faire celebration will begin at 9 AM on Saturday May 6.
