School Resumes Remotely on 1/4,
In-Person Opportunities Coming Soon
|
|
School resumes entirely remotely on Monday, January 4.
We continue to keep a close eye on health data, staffing and quarantine restrictions to evaluate exact dates that CCSD93 will reopen our schools to offer in-person learning opportunities to families who would like them. For much of December until the holidays, the numbers trended in a positive direction after spiking significantly prior to that. While we have shared that our target is mid-January, early next week we hope to reach out with more specific dates for returning. In that message, we will confirm each student’s preferred learning choice (Hybrid Learning or Remote Learning) and grouping (Group A or Group B), including those ECC and elementary families who changed their choice through our online form.
For a refresher on the most recent updates regarding reopening CCSD93’s schools, please review the following, which were sent to parents on December 15:
- Early Childhood Center update
- Elementary school update
-
Middle school update - Please note we have made one adjustment to the middle school message that was shared in mid-December. After a discussion at the December 17 Board of Education meeting, CCSD93 has committed to accelerating the middle school return time frame by one week. This means CCSD93 will bring back 6th graders the same week as preschool through 3rd grade students. Then the following week, we will bring back 7th and 8th grade students along with 4th and 5th graders. This does not affect the ECC or elementary schools, and it will still allow for 6th graders and middle school staff to practice in-person procedures and make adjustments before 7th and 8th grade are added the following week.

Students Share Perspective During
Talk D93 Podcast Recording
|
|
This week I was joined by Jessie, a 6th grader at Jay Stream, and Gianna, an 8th grader at Stratford, for our most recent Talk D93 podcast recording. They shared their perspectives on the remote learning experience as well as how they have been affected by the pandemic. It was incredibly enlightening to speak with them to better understand how they and other students like them have been impacted. Watch for their very special Talk D93 episode to drop next week at www.ccsd93.com/TalkD93 and on Apple Podcasts, Google Play and Spotify. We'll also share it here.
Please review the following articles for more important notes and continue to wash your hands, watch your distance and wear a mask to contribute to an atmosphere more conducive to in-person learning.

Sincerely,
Dr. David H. Hill

Reminder of School Closure Procedures Due to Weather: Is Your Contact Info Up To Date?
|
|
With winter upon us and the prospect of students returning to our schools for in-person learning soon, it's important that our parents know what to expect if there is an emergency school closing due to weather conditions. This year, if weather keeps CCSD93 from holding in-person school on any given day, we may enact an E-Learning Day wherein all students are learning remotely, or we may need to have a traditional “snow day” where students are off. In either instance, parents of students who are affected will receive notification from the District via the following methods:
- Automated phone call
- Email
- Text message
- Pushed to the CCSD93 app
School closing information will also be found prominently placed on:
- School websites
- CCSD93's website
- Our Facebook page
- Our Twitter account
- Our Instagram account
- Local television stations
- Local radio stations
-
At www.emergencyclosingcenter.com
Every effort is made to have a decision on whether or not to close schools by 5:30 a.m. While the District determines if schools should be closed due to weather, the decision to send a child to school in severe weather is always ultimately the choice of the parent. Parents who feel it is unsafe for their child to attend, even if school is open, should keep their child home that day and call the school office to notify the school of this decision.
We will contact you at all of the parent phone numbers and email addresses you provided when you completed your online registration. If you have received our call, text and email updates throughout this school year, your information should be up to date. If you haven't, please contact your child's school office next week during regular school hours to update your info.

All Parents Invited to Info Night for Student Abuse Prevention Program on 1/4
|
|
In response to the state mandate of educating students about Erin’s Law, CCSD93 will be hosting a program called Be Seen and Heard© - a prevention oriented child sexual abuse program, for all students. It is designed to create an age-appropriate, safe and engaging environment where students will learn about the difference between safe and unsafe touch, and the importance of having trusted heroes. This program is new to CCSD93 and replaces previously-used programs that were only presented to specific grade levels. The Be Seen and Heard© program will be delivered to all CCSD93 students during a portion of a school day in January or February.
At 6:30 p.m. on Monday, January 4, parents are invited to attend a virtual information meeting to preview the concepts of the Be Seen and Heard© program prior to the schools holding the presentations. You will be emailed a Zoom link the afternoon of Monday January 4 to use if you would like to attend the virtual meeting. If you would like to attend, please watch for that email on Monday.
For more information on Be Seen and Heard© in CCSD93, including a form to opt your child out of the program, visit this website.
