Father and maker of all, you adorn all creation with splendor and beauty,
and fashion human lives in your image and likeness.
Awaken in every heart reverence for the work of your hands,

Safety Practice Drills
On Monday, October 26th, XMS will be conducting safety practice drills. These practice drills will take place in the morning and will allow our students and staff to continue the safety and security conversations that took place at the beginning of the school year about the importance of understanding what to do during a situation that may take place at school. Please feel free to contact Mr. Bires with any questions that you or someone else might have regarding the safety and security policies that are currently in place at XMS.

To give our students the information, the students will be notified by an announcement from Mr. Bires and from their homeroom teacher during homeroom next Monday. During this time, the students will hear from Mr. Bires and the teacher about the safety practice drills. During this time it might be a great opportunity for you and your family to talk about safety procedures not only at school, but outside of school as well. As always, please feel free to contact XMS any time with any questions, comments, or concerns you might have.
XMS Parent Teacher Conferences
A separate email regarding the parent-teacher conferences on Nov 11th & 12th will be sent to all families this Friday, Oct 23rd.
Food Deliveries
Just a reminder that no food deliveries are allowed this year. Parents can drop off a lunch from home if a student forgets, but please do not drop off pizza, subs, or other restaurant food. Thank you for your help!
Red Ribbon Week Days October 23rd - 29th
Starting this Friday, October 23rd - October 29th, students at XMS will be participating in Red Ribbon Week. This is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention program reaching millions of Americans every year. By participating in school anti-drug events, young people pledge to live a drug-free life and pay tribute to Special Agent Enrique Camarena, who was killed while investigating drug traffickers. Here is a list of the activities we will be doing at XMS next week:
  • Friday October23rd - "Too Bright for Drugs" - Neon Colors, or other bright colors
  • Monday October 26th - "Team Up Against Drugs" - Sports Theme
  • Tuesday October 27th - "Dress for Success" - Uniform or Better
  • Wednesday October 28th - "Follow Your Dreams" - Pajamas/Comfy Clothes
  • Thursday October 29th - "Red Out" - Wear Red

Students are encouraged to participate in these fun themed activities. Fun items like giant neon glasses for Neon day, a comfy blanket on Comfy day, or a baseball cap on Sports day are allowed.  Items similar to face paint, wigs, and hair dye are not allowed. Students and families are encouraged to double check with a teacher prior to the next theme day if there is any question about what is ok to wear. The classroom teacher can ask a student to remove an item during class time if it becomes distracting to the learning environment. All other casual day guidelines per the XMS student handbook will be followed.

We are holding a raffle this year for Red Ribbon Week! There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners for each grade. To enter their names into the raffle, students can sign a pledge to stay drug free, create a catchy theme for next year's RRW, design/illustrate a poster, or take (and pass) the RRW trivia quiz. Detailed instructions for entries (including the links for the pledge and trivia quiz) will be emailed to all students on Friday the 23rd. Students will be allowed to complete as many or as few of the entry opportunities as they'd like, meaning each student will be able to enter their name into the raffle up to (but not more than) 4 times. All entries must be submitted by the morning of Thursday, October 29th. The winners will be chosen and announced on Thursday afternoon. The prizes are as follows:
  • 1st Place - $20 Starbucks Gift Card
  • 2nd Place - Casual Day Pass
  • 3rd Place - Snack Shack Coupons

Parents - New Translation Resource
We at Xavier are proud of our multicultural community! - and we want all our parents to be connected. We can offer communication help for speakers of many languages through a free translation app called “Class Tag.” [Plans were to use "Talking Points," but we will use "Class Tag" instead since it is already to be used at school.] Using this app, school can send text messages that will be translated to your home language, or you can write texts in your home language that will be translated to English. If you are interested, please email Mrs. Brege with your student's name(s) and your preferred cell phone number, at mbrege@xaviercatholicschools.org. Thanks!
Yearbooks
2019-2020 Yearbooks are now here and can be purchased at the XMS school office. The cost is $23.00. They can be purchased with cash (exact change needed) or a check made payable to Xavier Catholic Schools. Students can purchase yearbooks after school at the front office or parents can stop by during the day. Yearbooks are also available at the scrip office.

A Program of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic School System
Little Hawks- XYBA Basketball Program
Kindergartners through 2nd graders: Do you like basketball? You have never played and want to try? Sign up for the Xavier Youth Basketball Association's "Little Hawks" program. "Little Hawks" is an introductory fun practice opportunity for kids to learn the skills of the game of basketball, and prepare for further participation in the 3rd through 8th grade XYBA program. Registration is slated to happen later this calendar year, with the hope that practices may begin after Jan. 1 2021. These dates are later than previous years, as our board is working to secure practice space and times, and plan precautions and protocol for the safety of all participants. More information will be provided as soon as it is available. We hope you consider having your child join us! Go Hawks hoops!
