An academic bilingual community fostering global citizenship
From the Principal
May 13, 2021

Dear Park Spanish Immersion Elementary School Community:

It has been fun to see how excited our in-person learners are to spend time outside! As we continue to plan for next year, we have been reflecting on what has worked this year with the different opportunities that this year has presented. I am excited for the possibilities that are in front of us as we work to support our learners. We thank you for your continued collaboration and support.

Please see information below if your child has a school iPad or Chromebook.
In-person families: If your child has not already done so and if they were issued a school device (chromebook or iPad), please send it (and the charger) to school on Monday, May 17. Students will still use devices at school, but they will not be bringing them home. We need to start the inventory process to ensure that we will have devices in the fall.

DLA families:  Please bring your child's device and charger on Thursday, June 10th between 9:30 and 2:30 or on Friday, June 11th from 7:30 to 3:00 to the office at Door 1. If this timing does not work for you or if you need support, please email vandewalker.sara@slpschools.org

Have a great week, keep reading, and give your children an extra hug!

May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month
May is Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. Annually, this is an opportunity to listen and learn about the diversity within AAPI communities as well as how deep the connections are to all facets of American history. Students will learn about this month in age-appropriate classroom lessons and activities. To access more resources in Minnesota, visit the Coalition of Asian American Leaders.
District-Owned Device/Electronics Collection
Instructional planning for the 2021-2022 school year is underway. The collection of school-issued Chromebooks, iPads and mobile hotspots and associated chargers prior to the last day of school is essential to ensure digital tools are available for learning at the start of next school year.

Students will still be devices at school, but they will not be bringing them home. We are starting the inventory process to ensure that we will have devices in the fall.

DLA families: You will need to bring your child's device and charger on Thursday, June 10 between 9:15 and 11:30 to the office at Door 1. If this timing does not work for you or you don't have transportation, please email vandewalker.sara@slpschools.org

Minnesota Safe Learning Survey
The Center for Applied Research and Educational Improvement (CAREI) at the University of Minnesota is working with the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) through the Wisconsin-Minnesota Comprehensive Center (WMCC) to launch the Minnesota Safe Learning Survey. The goal is to gather information via a survey of educators, students (grades 6-12), and families regarding their educational experiences this academic year.

The survey results will inform future MDE planning and support that the WMCC and the University may be able to provide to local schools and policymakers. In addition, CAREI intends to provide each district/charter a report that compares local data to statewide results.
