Parks and Recreation Staff Need Your Help!

The Parks and Recreation Department is excited to start programming YOUR new Community Center! Please take a couple of minutes to share your ideas about potential Community Center offerings so we are ready to go when the doors open in summer 2022.

What types of programs, classes, and support do you want? What about your family, friends, neighbors, and pets? All new and creative ideas are especially welcome!

Please share the survey link with anyone who would be interesting in providing feedback. If you’d like to see an update on the progress of the project, please visit the project web page.

You can also send any ideas to Recreation Manager Nicole Acquisti at nacquisti@burlingame.org. We appreciate your comments and are looking forward to seeing you soon!

PG&E Reports 65% Increase in Scams

During September and October, the number of attempted scams reported to PG&E increased by 65%.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, scammers have increased calls, texts, emails, and in-person tactics and are constantly contacting utility customers asking for immediate payment to avoid service disconnection.

As a reminder, PG&E will never send a single notification to a customer within one hour of a service interruption, and will never ask customers to make payments with a pre-paid debit card, gift card, any form of cryptocurrency, or third-party digital payment mobile applications.

Scammers can be convincing and often target those who are most vulnerable, including senior citizens and low-income communities. They also direct their scams at small business owners during busy customer service hours. Click here to learn more.

Planting the Urban Forest

The Parks Division is in the process of planting 162 City trees throughout Burlingame in planter strip areas, tree lawns, and parks. The species of trees being planted will include red maples, eucalyptus Citriodoras, Chinese flame trees, crepe myrtles (Tuscarora), magnolia (Little Gem and Samuel Sommers), elms (Pioneer and Accolade), sycamores, Chinese pistaches, and Trident maples. This is the last of three plantings that will happen this year.

Did you know? If you do not have a City tree in front of your house, the City will plant a one to 15 gallon tree at no charge! Contact the Parks Division office at 650-558-7330 for more information.
Children’s Vaccines

Residents are encouraged to check on MyTurn, pediatric providers’ websites (e.g.,
Kaiser, Sutter, PAMF, Stanford) and local pharmacies (e.g., CVS, Walgreens) to find
the best option for children’s vaccination.

Pediatric vaccines are also available at the Playland appointment-only children’s clinic
at the Event Center at 1346 Saratoga Drive, San Mateo.

This week’s clinics:

Lawn to Landscape – the Artificial Turf Question

Property owners interested in converting water intensive lawns to easier-to-manage landscapes may consider artificial turf. Artificial turf does use less water and needs less care than grass, however; it is NOT considered an ecologically sound alternative. BAWSCA outlines the potential environmental concerns of artificial turf in this helpful factsheet.

We would love to see your sustainable landscape. Please send photos and details to smichael@burlingame.org.
