Save the Date for James Patterson!
Tue. Dec. 15th at 7pm

The Nevins Library is very excited to announce a Virtual Author Visit with Bestselling Author James Patterson!

He will be talking in conversation with another local favorite, Hank Phillippi Ryan.

They will be discussing two of Patterson's most recent books: Deadly Cross (published November 2020) which is the 28th book of the popular Alex Cross series and The Last Days of John Lennon (publishing December 2020), all about one of the greatest true-crime stories in music history.

This will be an exciting event fans won't want to miss!

Registration will be required, but we do not as yet have a link where you can do so.

So, please check the main page of the Nevins Library Website or our Twitter/Facebook Page for the link the moment we have it!
Announcing the Methuen Friendship Quilt Project
In the mid-1800s, "Friendship Quilts" were a popular way to commemorate events and memories, often with a large group of people creating the quilt for a particular person or family. These quilts were often personalized with the signatures of those who made the squares in the quilt.

We would like to announce our take on this idea: The Methuen Friendship Quilt Project.

Methuen is a strong community with equally strong neighbors, and we'd like to help create this quilt to show just how resilient and creative we can be.

Anyone and everyone is invited to create a square (or two!) for this quilt. It can be any design, any color, any thing you'd like (although we have the right to not include anything vulgar, profane, etc.) but it needs to be made primarily of cotton cloth, able to be displayed outside, and measure 8" x 8" (leaving 1/2" border for sewing together).

We encourage personalization, like the signatures in the historic quilts. We would like the quilt we build together to encourage hope, friendship, and unity throughout our community.
We will have resources available at the library to show you how and to answer your questions.

We will begin collecting these quilt squares at the library beginning December 1 and continue with the collection through the end of March.

We hope to have an outdoor display of the quilt prepared by mid-April for all to enjoy.
Calling All Creative Teens!
Are you interested in coding?

Check out the free coding programs on our website, and then create an animation about your favorite winter holiday or activity!

Email your animation to our teen services librarian, Alison, at acochrane@nevinslibrary.org. Your animations will be shared on our YouTube channel and the Teen Facebook Page!
Want to help decorate the Teen Section?

Sign up for a craft kit to make either a paper poinsettia, paper star, paper lantern, or paper snowflake.

Each craft kit will include recycled book pages and instructions that tell how to make your chosen craft. If you would like, you can return your finished craft to the library so it can be used to decorate the teen section for winter.
Do you have a skill to share? Anyone with any skill can send a how-to video to our teen services librarian, Alison, by emailing her at acochrane@nevinslibrary.org. She'll add your how-to video to the Nevins Memorial Library YouTube channel and the Library's Teen Facebook Page.

Finally, don't forget that we still have lots of great Groups & Clubs going on. Check out our website for all the details, and keep an eye on our Social Media for all the latest Teen Nevins News! We look forward to "seeing" you at our teen programs this month!

What's Happening in Children's?
Some Wonderful End of Year Programs in Children's
Throughout the month, holiday highlights include our annual “’Twas the Night before Christmas” visit with Santa (“zoomed” this year, as you might guess), a “How to Be an Elf” workshop, a “Let’s Make a Gift” crafting program, Hanukkah-themed and Christmas-themed storytimes, and holiday take-and-make crafts.

We’ll continue another wonderful annual tradition this year by sponsoring a Giving Tree to provide Christmas gifts to Merrimack Valley homeless children served by Emmaus, Inc.

The tree will be set up on the library’s main floor, where you can choose a Wish List tag from the tree to help make a child’s Christmas dreams come true. Once you’ve purchased the wish list item, simply put it (unwrapped) under the Giving Tree by December 15, and we’ll deliver the gifts to Emmaus. (Or, if you’d rather not come into the library you can the Children’s Department and we can suggest an item, and we can set up a curbside pick-up appointment as well.)

This year, more than ever, these children need your help, and we have dozens of wishes to fulfill – thank you for your kind generosity!
