COMPOSING WITH NATURALS
with Connie Stricks and Susan Campbell

Twigs, bark, feathers, leaves, and stones are a few of the natural materials Connie Stricks and Susan Campbell use in their artist books. Join them at our September meeting as they share their passion for natural materials along with examples of their work. For our program activity, we will create cards using natural materials that Connie and Susan will provide (twigs, birch bark, and stones). A variety of neutral shades of Khadi paper will be available along with Strathmore inserts that will be stitched to the Khadi with a pamphlet stitch. Please join us as we explore the myriad possibilities that natural materials provide while composing elegant cards.

What to bring:
small cutting mat
ruler
scissors
awl
bone folder
x-acto knife
small brush for glue (optional)
natural materials to accompany what is provided (optional)

NBG Workshop with Andie Thrams

California artist Andie Thrams spent a long weekend in late August with guild members at our studio, inspiring appreciation for the natural world and teaching us techniques in watercolor painting. She shared her practice of immersion in the field setting as we hiked and sketched in the Chena River Wayside Park near the studio. Scarlet high bush cranberries, golden rose leaves, multi-hued fireweed stems, dogwood with orange berries, and deep blue-green spruce trees provided plenty of inspiration. Back in the studio, we were awed by her portfolio of rich and layered paintings, and then set to work. By the end of our last day, everyone had a lovely concertina book celebrating Fall Flora. We are all looking forward to another workshop with this gifted artist.
