Message from A.J. Baynes
While the Chamber has been extremely busy over the past few weeks, we are now shifting our focus to our Small Business Awards Luncheon and Showcase, where we will honor several Western New York small businesses and two individuals who have made a tremendous difference in our community. This year's honorees represent diverse local enterprises, ranging from distilleries to cybersecurity firms to wine shops, and two individuals that support our community and our Chamber. Each winner has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and community service in their respective fields.
We anticipate another sold-out event with over 400 people and nearly 50 vendors participating in the showcase. It will take place on Thursday, July 20, at Samuel's Grande Manor. Take advantage of the opportunity to celebrate these outstanding businesses and individuals who make our region a special place to live, work, and do business. A few showcase tables are still available, as well as, some ads for the program book. Please email marketing@amherst.org for assistance.

After a three-year hiatus, Day of Caring, United Way of Buffalo & Erie County’s (UWBEC) largest single-day volunteer event, returns on June 21, 2023. The event, sponsored by Wegmans, HSBC and Delaware North, will mobilize over 2,000 people in support of nonprofit organizations across Erie County. Nearly 1,400 volunteers have already raised their hands to be part of the day, but many opportunities to participate are still available.
Day of Caring volunteer registration is open now on VolunteerWNY.org. Individuals and teams can choose from over 100 projects based on their interests and skills. For the first time, volunteers can sign up directly for the Day of Caring project of their choice through the online platform.
But volunteering on June 21st isn’t the only way to be part of Day of Caring. United Way’s popular Community Baby Shower is now an official Day of Caring project. Also new this year – volunteers and community members can sign up as Day of Caring Crowdfunding Champions. Proceeds from this peer-to-peer campaign will benefit both United Way and project host nonprofit organizations.
Whether you’re ready to roll up your sleeves on June 21st, host a Community Baby Shower to provide critical baby items for families in need, or raise funds and awareness through the Day of Caring crowdfunding campaign, there is a way for everyone to show our community what caring looks like this June. Find everything you need to register today at uwbec.org/day-of-caring.
Early-stage startup founders across Western New York get up to $100k in pre-seed funding and mentorship from Cultivator, a program from the University at Buffalo’s Business & Entrepreneur Partnerships team.

Cultivator pairs founders with entrepreneurs-in-residence and subject matter experts who have walked in their shoes. Together, they roll up our sleeves to help founders validate their market potential, establish marketing plans, gear up to fundraise, and connect with investors and customers.
Cultivator is open on a rolling basis, and no previous affiliation with UB is required to participate. They strongly encourage historically underrepresented founders to apply. Learn more and apply: buffalo.edu/cultivator

Heads up! Less than half way through the year, Federal Agencies have updated the required FLSA (Federal minimum and other wage payment info) and FMLA postings. What does this mean? If you already have all-inclusive posters up, simply post these updated posters next to them. If you have all individual posters hanging, you can replace the old versions with these new ones. Finally, if you're in NYS, remember that all posters are required to be posted electronically as well, so don't forget to put these new posters wherever you store those postings as well!

Get out and get moving with Fitness in the Parks
Independent Health is once again teaming up with the YMCA to offer Fitness in the Parks this summer. Now in its 12th season, Fitness in the Parks is the largest and longest running outdoor fitness program in Western New York.

More than 500 FREE fitness classes will be offered at 26 different parks and other unique locations across Western New York from June 1 through August 31. Locations include:

o  Delaware Park
o  Chestnut Ridge Park
o  Wilkeson Pointe at Outer Harbor
o  Larkin Square
o  The Buffalo Bills ADPRO Sports Training Center

Classes are scheduled every day of the week
People of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to attend the classes, which are led by YMCA-certified instructors. Among the 16 different class styles offered this year are:

o  Boot Camp – A challenging yet enjoyable workout that focuses on speed, endurance, agility, strength, power moves and cardiovascular training.

o  Pilates (mat required) – Strengthen the body’s core muscles, including the abdominals and lower back, with this method of body conditioning. You’ll tone your body and increase flexibility.

o  Yoga (mat required) – Enjoy gentle, effective postures that promote stretching, strengthening and relaxation. Benefits include increased blood circulation, improved mental awareness, strengthened muscles and reduced stress.

o  Zumba® – This class feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy Latin and international beats.

For the first time, we will also be offering Beginners Qigong, Kickboxing Boot Camp, and Kids Yoga and Storytime. Plus, there will be a Walking Club for people to join.

Again, all classes are free and no advanced sign-up is required. Participants can simply show up to the location of their choice at the day and time listed on the class schedule.

To view the full schedule, park locations and class descriptions, visit www.independenthealth.com/fitpark. Day-of cancellations, due to rain or poor weather, will be listed on the YMCA Buffalo Niagara Facebook page.
