Dear Friends,

Why do I give to Pardee Hospital Foundation? Because UNC Health Pardee is a nonprofit hospital devoted to assessing the community’s health and then meeting those needs with alacrity and excellence. Because I know my gift stays local, serving my friends, neighbors, family members and people in my community. Because I have experienced a profound return on investment from my experiences both as a patient and a partner.

Check out below just a few ways our collective support matters, including the expansion of services into Transylvania County, the launch later this month of our mobile mammography bus, and our diehard commitment to quality care, as evidenced by the excellent patient care and safety made possible by nurses like Elsie McLean whom we celebrate as part of national Nurse’s week. I am also inspired by the caliber of our professional and community team, like the past and present leaders we are saluting this month.

Like you, this is why I give.

Thank you for your continued partnership — yours are gifts that keep on giving! We look forward to celebrating together in the weeks to come at our annual Gala, June 3.

With gratitude,

Amy Treece

Executive Director

UNC Health Pardee Grows in Brevard

Last week, UNC Health Pardee hosted a meet and greet event connecting community members with its medical providers located in Brevard. Through one-on-one conversations, attendees learned about Pardee’s services unique to the Transylvania County community and UNC Health Pardee’s intensified efforts to expand its footprint, bringing medical resources and state of the art care to new communities.

Pardee’s presence in Brevard includes primary care, neurology and surgical practices, physical therapy and orthopedics, urgent care, and Pardee’s newest addition to the community, cardiology.

Caring by Doing - In Celebration of our Nurses

It’s not often that someone spends their entire career at the same company. For Elsie McLean, RN, it’s a badge of honor to have dedicated more than 44 years as a nurse with UNC Health Pardee.

Elsie’s relationship with Pardee began when she was a student at East Henderson High School as a candy striper, volunteering more than 300 hours during her stint. Later, after finishing nursing school in Charlotte, Elsie returned to Pardee, this time as a registered nurse in the Emergency Department. Today her legacy continues as her daughter, Courtney, now serves as a registered nurse in the surgical services unit.

Despite many changes over her 44-year career as a nurse, Elsie said one thing has remained constant, “my entire path I have been provided with wonderful team members who share a common goal of helping patients. It’s what has made my career so great.”

As we celebrate Nurses Week – we’re highlighting Elsie’s career with Pardee, from her years volunteering as a candy striper to becoming a bedside nurse and now in retirement, she has experienced and given so much of her life to Pardee.

UNC Health Pardee is gearing up to present Mammo on the Go later this month, a mobile option for providing early breast cancer detection services and 3D mammogram technology to women in Polk, Henderson, Transylvania and Buncombe Counties. Mammo on the Go is made possible by generous donors including Kenmure Fights Cancer, a component fund of the Community Foundation of Henderson County, and James H. Cummings Foundation.

Pardee Hospital Foundation is fueled by the generosity of others and today we celebrate 2015 Philanthropist of the Year, Dr. William Medina, who walks the talk when it comes to giving. A healthcare provider himself, Medina was recognized for his tireless work on the $6 million capital campaign that made the Pardee Cancer Center a reality in 2017. Medina served the hospital as chief of staff and chairman of the Department of Medicine during his time as an oncologist at Pardee. Following his retirement, he continued to serve as leader of UNC Health Pardee’s Board of Directors.

Standing on the shoulders of generous donors such as Dr. Medina, the Pardee Hospital Foundation enables UNC Health Pardee to provide the highest quality, life-changing care for its patients. We invite you to learn more about the Foundation’s Generations of Excellence Society and how your giving can support your community’s hospital.
