Poppies on Parade here at Nevins
Installation unveiling November 10 10-12noon
This is the month of the poppy here at the Nevins Library. All summer we have been gathering the poppies made by community members in order to produce an art installation here to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI. This is an homage to the famous poem about the poppies of Flanders Field, that grew in amazing proportions the year after the war ended due to the upheaval of the soil during wartime. The poppy has become a symbol of the veterans and their supreme sacrifice during the various armed conflicts over the years. We will have an opening of the art installation on November 10 from 10-12 noon and then the poppies will be on display from that time until Thanksgiving. A huge thank you to Sarah Sullivan, and all the crafty volunteers who worked to make over 2400 poppies for our display...and a heartfelt thank you to all our Vets for their service through the years.
